mayyn meal - Maison Ikkoku Cafe

On a more adventurous sort of day with a gf in Singapore, we decided to go past Haji Lane and in search for brunch in the midst of quite a cultural place in Singapore.

We found the little shophouses, and in the midst, Maison Ikkoku Cafe. What a gem!

Not many seatings available but we did make a reservation which wasnt really neccessary as we were there quite early anyway. But I know it gets really crowded and busy near lunchtime.

The cashier/barista even gave us a mini lesson on the coffee they offer.

XH had the eggs florentine which she eventually continued going back for it. The guacamole that accompanied the dish really hit the spot and everything was pulled together very nicely. Good portion size too.

For me, I liked my vegetable omelette and that amazing tomato salad it came with. What a wholesome meal, and what a way to start the morning.

I had the Signature MI Latte which was AMAZING. I think one of the best coffees around. So worth the effort to head down even just for a cuppa.

Being girls, we eventually strolled down to Haji Lane for a browse through the overpriced vintage stores. Well, its all worth a look and some photo taking opportunities!

All in all, a very good day out and a gem of a cafe discovered.

Mayy's Closet - Day Three of CNY

So I continued with the blue theme and also the full skirted style for the third day of CNY.

步步高升

This sapphire blue dress was actually Mum's buy from Bangkok but she couldn't wear it so its mine now! Been tempted to wear it for awhile when I had to get ready for friends meetups. But managed to hold it in ;)

The pink/white/gold statement necklace is also from Bangkok, something one of my younger cousins got for me when she was there for a visit.

Liked the deep V backline but not too fond of the ribbon tie back at the top. Kinda too sweet, and spoilt the shape of the back in my opinion.

Firstly, I really liked the scallop hem with cutout eyelet design around it!

Now, I paired it with a red bracelet that Jol got for me while she was in Bangkok, and two gold rings (butterfly and rose on a vine) at Chatuchak market in Bangkok. so really, most of the outfit came from my favourite city in Thailand! The earrings were from Perth though: Lovisa and Forever New.

The bag is from YSL, and the shoes my comfy grey suede heels from Zara with its scallop cutout details too!

Mayy's Closet - Day Two of CNY

So let's start being on track with this blog thing! Anyway, second day of CNY brought out another printed dress that I got online in Aussie for the occasion. I really need to stop shopping! Anyway, except this was bought alot later and very near the festival...

I dont know why I did it but for the sole purpose of just trying out, my makeup matched the dress. Blue eyeliner from BYS and my new NARS pink lippie.

mayyn meal - Carpenter and Cook

Following the brunch at Choupinette, Aiky and I continued on our lazy day to Carpenter and Cook hidden  from public eyes and crowds.

Not saying the cafe was quiet, because I know it is one popular place.

Vintage and antiques dotted (okay, covered) the spacious cafe.

Really really cute concept! No wonder Singaporeans love this place.

My skinny latte served on the cutest plate.

Coffee was quite darn good, just so you know. Definitely kind of worth the trip down there if you dont live right across it. Lucky people...

see, I did say it wasnt quiet even on a weekday afternoon!

Chose this lavender bundt because I couldnt have everything I wanted. Hate making choices (it was a toss up between this and lemon drizzle cake). But I love the lavender aroma in my mouth as I savour this sweet treat. 

(On a sidenote, a friend did mention the lemon drizzle cake was good after I posted photos on fb)

Okay, so I really like the sets and serving decor.

Because it was a bit hot, so we had this to try and cool down. Not something I like, but Aiky did find it intriguing and yummy.

Afternoon tea, done the right way. Decor, serving, plating and the food.

Scones - all sold out and we only had the choice of choc chip which was the last one! I really like the sandy texture and crumbly buttery goodness of it all. Definitely one of the better scones in Singapore which can be so difficult to find because most tend to be dry or just not fresh.

Would I return to Carpenter and Cook, yups. Why? Not because of the kitschy-ness, but because the stuff has the credibility and yummi-ness to boot.

mayyn meal - Choupinette

taking a little break from Monday. to go back in time for abit on a lazy weekday in Singapore with a bff.

Our initial plans were thwarted so we decided to cab down a short distance to Choupinette at Bukit Timah.

Unassuming and not the best view ever, just next to Coronation.

Inside however, the decor was more rustic, really does bring one back to a French countryside.

I ordered the egg's royal set for meself. Being on abit of diet that week, so I was unable to have the whole thing to myself. But the little taste of the toasted carb/bread under the smoked salmon and poached eggs and hollandaise sauce was SUPERB. So tasty, and also because Choupinette is known for their bakery goodness. Smoked salmon is of a good grade so I am quite impressed, but the poached eggs and hollandaise sauce could be better to match the other good bits on the plate, maybe also some wilted spinach to just bring this to perfection?

Aiky had the sandwich which was quite light and fresh all together. He had to eat half of my eggs royal though so it was lucky he ordered this. But the sandwich itself does fill one up properly...

The sandwich set came with a choice of desserts and we went with macarons. 

Nothing jumps right out at me to go woah though. However, while we were there that day, we do know the creme brulee/choc mousse were sold out or nearly sold out so we didn't go for any of those... Perhaps it would have been a better idea?

Overall, the coffee wasnt that amazing and because I dont live around the area, I found the travel time wasnt really worth the meal. It was nice to experience it once but other than that, I will keep trying others and find a handful of which I know for sure I will head back no matter the efforts.
