Mayy's Closet #50

It is the weekend again and I still am NOT done with my report for my supervisors. Oops. Nevermind that, at least I finished marking papers. Phew and totally satisfied my laksa craving yesterday. Now my tummy can move along already!

Had a buffet lunch at the Atrium with the honours bunch and Jeanette on the first Monday of our break. Lunch affairs such as wedding or at nice places always gets me. I mean if it is summer and I know my girlfriends will be there, maxidresses are just the no-brainer go to outfits! However, it is winter and I know this bunch don't really dress up. So it was hard for me to decide...

I eventually decided on this new Dotti tunic/dress I got from a recent sale AUD19.95. A steal really because it is so simple and and yet when you put it on, you know you will never go wrong!

A little gold-rimmed button on a small breast pocket. It looks like it is too thin for winter but let me tell you, it is so warm on! Breaking the black monotony, I put on my new red beret from Dangerfield at Myers AUD9. I also put on my new black/leopard print booties from Love Couture. More on it next time eh!

And my black quilted clutch is always perfect for most of my outfits. It is huge enough for my wallet and anything else I wanna throw in. If it was a night event, I could wear black stockings (patterned or not) with it, a gold clutch and black stilettos.

Trying on leopard print stilettos at Forever New. Really wanted to get it but Shiyu kept saying I can't. Sighs. Sportsgirl also had a really nice version too...

Trying on leopard print fur coats! Really loved this one from Forever New.

Or this one from Bardot? I also found a short cropped one at Dotti but somehow, I could not justify owning one yet. Maybe because my heart belongs to the Forever New one which is so expensive...SIGHS. Which one would you get though? Or do you think it is a short-lived trend? Though I must point out, I always love leopard prints. It is just that now, the fashion world decided it is a trend so there is alot of it to go round...Pfffffft.

Mayy's Closet #4

A closet post for the recent black-tie dinner I had to attend over the weekend. I always love an occasion/excuse to play Barbie and dress up. Weddings, dinner, going out to special places. Anything so long as I can justify it! Best yet when I am in Singapore, I get to go to a hair salon and get my hair done up professionally and get my makeup done by a make-up artist! How fun eh? But here in Perth, it's more expensive for hair and makeup so I only really go to get makeup done professionally at the makeup counters and also purchase makeup which really...isnt too often anyway! Now less talk and more pictures for you.

Starting with the outfit of the night, it is a formal dress I got last December from Ally in Carousel. I love the unique drop hem best which really attracted me to the dress at first. There is no secret I am also partial to the colour and material. Shiny and stiff with bone in the corset top. I don't usually go for balloon skirts but I like that it gives the dress this certain puffiness and glam factor with it. Makes me feel like a slight princess with a tight top and puffy bottom!

I've gone with a pair of strappy heels instead of black pumps stilettos. But I felt it could have worked either way depending on makeup, accessories and where you are going. Very simple hairdo and accessories here too. Because of the focus on my eye makeup and the dress.

My two wonderful beautiful funny makeup experts for the night! Rachel from Clarins (left), largely responsible for recreating the eye makeup I wanted. Ashlee from Revlon (right), responsible for everything else and making me look like I have blemish free skin. I really do have to give them credit here. There is NO doubts at all that I will return to Myers Carousel Revlon or Clarins makeup counter if I need to have my warpaint put on professionally. I initially went for Revlon but Ashlee got Rachel to help me with the eyes because she thought Rachel would be better at it, making my unfailing Clarins customer service experiences international now. Anyway I can only tell you how much the Revlon experience will cost you: $45 spent on makeup at least.

Well, might as well blog about my night for you then! I was going to attend the awards night for Master Builders Association, sponsored by Bankwest and a whole lot of others.

That was the little lunchbox we got after cocktails and into the awards ceremony. Turned out this is our entree for the night. The bread roll was very tough, and it just isn't too impressive on the whole. Really funny that they decided to serve it to us like that. Would have been nice to just give us this as a snack or something else, and serve the 3 main courses properly later at the ballroom.

Theme for the night was Hawaiian. We were greeted with these colourful lanterns when we got to the ballroom. In addition to wine, beer etc, they also had a really good cocktail of vodka, sprite and a slice of lemon. Not strong enough though.

When we were all seated, we were treated to a traditonal hawaiian dance and drums like a luau. I wouldn't say I would know it for sure because I haven't been to Hawaii yet. Pretty interesting! We also got good seats in front for both the awards ceremony and dinner. The emcee was also really funny. I think he is a newsreader from Channel 10.

Ceiling decor, more lanterns!

Menu for the night. I don't have to tell you what they are now.

Main course! A pretty small portion but beautifully presented. The chicken was tough and not too juicy i.e. dry. Baby carrot was really sweet and the the pork was veryvery good.

Brave couple going up for a dance, setting a very very high standard.

Check out his spiffy shoes!

Desserts for the night!!! Disappointed at such a small plate...

Pavlovas were yummy though, with a very nice gooey inside. Cherry ripe ice cream was STINGY. The melons were tasteless, the berries sour. Quite disappointed really.

Overall, it was an eye-opener and a different night for me. I had a good time, largely in part to a new friend I made. Her name is May and she is also from Singapore. HAHA. Let's just say it was a pretty freaky night as we uncover the similarities we share! Check out her blog too!

Shoestopper #19

I should definitely also do an in-depth post on the pair of shoes I wore today eh? Like I said earlier, it is by Kenji which is available in Myers departmental stores in Australia. I bought this gorgeously classic pair last year and have worn it less than 10 times. I love it wayyyyyyy too much!

It is made out of suede on the outside, and satin leopard prints on the inside. It is super comfy with the cushion sole underneath the fierce prints. There are platforms in the front but I love that it is well covered up. The heels are insanely steady too, for its 4half inches glory.

I remembered looking for a black classic pair for ages that could really go with just about anything. I looked at this one and knew it was THE ONE, and that I had to have it. I was incredibly lucky too as it was on sale at that time. Additional discount if you hold a Myers card. Suhweet! If I am not wrong, this pair only set me back at AUD60 after all that.

While the arch may get some getting used to, but it is no biggie at all for the comfort and stability this pair of stilettos offered. Yummy! It gives me all the power and confidence in the world when I put them on. For whatever occasion, I feel more empowered or sexier, just ready to take on the world!

Do you have a pair like that in your collection?

Till my next shoe-stopping experience, Mayy xo
