I just got instagram (@mayyb) and Ive been obesessively posting photos and hashtagging them. My friends alternate between "stop spamming us" and "stop making us hungry". Shrugs. Then I got hooked on looking through the beautiful fashion photos or style photos that ladies take of themselves or by someone else. They look amazing and I marvel at their efforts. Truly there are no ugly people in this world, only lazy ones. I am slightly blessed but I know I can be lazy. No trace of makeup if I can help it and definitely a dress if I can get away with it. I live for a slightly more casual, beach/surf vibe most of the days. But I also know when I get to dress up, I go all out. Unfortunately, I also on the daily basis try to skim by with the minimal of efforts.

And here's one of those days.


The Bardot dress was bought at a steal and so were the Forever New sunnies and envelope clutch.

I love that scalloped edged, cutout clutch in that vintage rose colour. I have since sold it because well to be honest, I think I have two others in different colours.

The sunnies were something different and never fails to hide my eyebags and add a pop of colour and glameowness to my outfit.

I wore that particular outfit with my satin coral ballet pumps from Novo and felt like abit feminine.


This dress is simple no doubt. But the sleeves were baggy enough to let the arms breathe and cool the summer alittle, or add warmth during autumn. Whichever. Its a dress that goes with every season and I must be grateful for that.

I love the cut-in hems at the side and just give it that little bit of sexiness to an otherwise ordinary little black dress.


I like the lace details and cinched stretch waist as it lends abit of oomph to an otherwise less endowed area.

Like most of my clothes, it is something for the day, something for the night, something through the seasons. Like I said, I am lazy. But then again, shortcuts can sometimes come in so many lovely ways no?

This dress sure was one of my absolute favourites. Through winter to summer of 2011. Paired with stockings  and heels or booties and a beret and scarf. Or gladiator sandals and chunky necklaces.

A steal from Supre at less than 10bucks. It lasted me a year and I only really let it go because I had worn it so often in a year that I got quite sick of it...well. not really. more like I felt bad for the other dresses in my wardrobe! I love the neckline and bell sleeves and its flattering style. A little retro and simplicity, but I suppose thats me on a normal day..

Just looking back at my old photos, and stumbled upon a dress style I had loved so much and bought two different designs. Would have bought more if not for my mother's voice of reason in my head.

They were from Bugis, so very cheap and not really of great quality. I still managed to wear them to death though. And eventually had to donate them away because I was wearing them too often. Nad for nearly just about any occasions because of their versatility.

What can I say? Animal prints are great for day and night.


So I got a zebra printed one highlighted with a bright pink waistline. The short butterfly sleeves were also flattering . I could dress this down for a casual day out in school and then shopping in the city. Or dress it up with silver accessories and chunky bracelets and neon pink heels for a cool night out!

I would say I wore this print more for casual days, whereas the next one was my go-to party dress when I get so very lazy.

The thick black eyeliner, cat-eyed at the tips. The gold glitter eyeshadows, the smokey eyes, the nude lips. Gold accessories, a cinched belt and killer black stiletto complete the look usually. The leopard print is such a staple in my wardrobe. And this light dress was so perfect for summer and even winter (though I nearly shivered to death waiting in line to the clubs).

Just blogging about these dresses made me miss them quite abit. I had alot of good times with them and we all need to move on at some point! hahaha.

It was quite the hot day but cool morning/night sorta spring day Perth was experiencing when I decided on this outfit.

I wore my very simple and comfy Dotti scoopneck black top with this olive green Supre chiffon overlay maxiskirt. The black belt was handy in covering up the not-so-pretty elastic. I like that the outfit makes me look a lot taller than I really am.

Oh alright, I wore orange wedges as a pop of colour during the day.

I swopped the wedges for grey stilettos pumps for the night when I met a friend for movie and dinner. Such a great outfit to take you from day to night! So easy and effortless!

And here's another great thing about a maxiskirt, I could wear it as a dress on its own and belt it for a more defined waist. I got this corset belt from Taipei Wu Fen Pu. That day, I wore a black blazer over this 'dress' and ballet flats for the day. Swapped the flats for heels at night...

Thats two simple outfits and four great ways! Im sure I can find more ways to wear this and so for that reason, it shall remain in my closet for a while more...

I put this dress up for sale on facebook quite a while ago and has since been sold. While I originally intended to sell it with tags attached, there were no buyers and I thought maybe its not meant to be.

Took the tags out and wore it once before someone really wanted to buy it! Here you go...

I got this nude pink scoop neck angel sleeves dress from Supre online. While it did fit me quite nicely and I really do like it, I just had to be abit more pragmatic and strict about my closet these days. A tinge of regret but I know its the right thing to do. I dont see myself wearing it often.

Im just glad I managed to have the chance to wear it the way I had imagined me to. With a brown rope belt and my Aldo tribal wedges. Simple and earthy.

Mayy's Closet #74

Still stuck in uni doing consultation. Students really only show up at the very end. Exam's Tuesday so I really dont expect anyone until Friday or Monday... Anyway, so many thoughts running through my mind at the moment. Perhaps I will do some thinking and have pensive moments to myself soon.

Anyhow, I managed to squeeze in some fun and partying with my college friends when Tom came back into town during the last couple of weeks of my thesis submission. Shocker really. But here is the outfit for the night of fun amidst the stress.

A chiffon top bondage dress from Supre. Bought it last year but never got round to wearing it because the top part is trasclucent and I couldnt think of a good way to wear it. Went with a basic black boob tube for the night but would have gone with a lace bustier anytime! So this dress isnt going anywhere at the moment.

Okay, so it is a little short. I do wish it is longer so I can wear it for corporate purposes. Black and gold is my favourite combination and never fails me.

Mayy's Closet #73

Hey y'all! It's the CHOGM weekend here in Perth where heads of commonwealth gather here for meetings. Even the Queen is here! She's arrived yesterday and while I didn't manage to catch a glimpse of her, she was to visit a church across uni and I was driving past it. Lots of security guards and and police and news vans! Big.

Pretty exciting month too for Australia because 1st November next Tuesday is the Melbourne Cup and the Ascot Racecourse here in WA will probably get pretty crowded. Even in the city and offices where people may get all dressed up, fascinators and the works. Would be fun and I really wanted to go this year for the first time. But it is not to be because my students are taking their exams on that very day and I have to go check stuff and mark papers. Great timing Examinations Office scheduling people. Pfffft.

Now, if I were to go for Derby Day... This is one of my choices! Because it is just traditional to go in black and white for derby day!

A simple black and white cotton dress from Cotton On. Very comfy for the whole day and the drinking and eatings, well, a tight dress just wouldn't be right... I had to belt it here because it is a little too big on me. But it is already size S from Cotton On.

Loving the slight dip hem and the lace backless detail. Add black lace gloves, strappy heels and a cute black fascinator and you are good to go!

A front view where the V-neck front and backless dress would not have really allowed one to wear a bra and Cotton On had very kindly designed the dress with slits to insert security for your boobies! Thoughtful design, whats not to love with the right demure length and a sweet skirt style.

Havent worn the dress since so put it up for sale... We'll see!

Before I take you on a culinary experience, here's a little blog post on a dress I owned. I have since sold it but I only wore it for the shortest time possible at Anna's 21st dinner party. It was such a blustery rainy day.

The colourful busy prints really attracted me to it and I knew I had to have it when I saw it at Target. The little bow detail at the side also made all the difference.

The material was thick and smooth to touch. I liked the heart-shaped boob details and the length was just right. I paired it with glitter stilettos and let the busy prints speak for themselves. Nothing too complicated and not too much accessories are necessary for such dresses. Kinda wished I didnt sell it but really, I have to. The size of my closet is too much and I know I will only ever wear it again once at most.

Such a hoarder? Sighs. But hey, cant say I regret buying this. It is beautiful!

Enough about food? I hear cries of "No" and I agree but sometimes lets not get too saturated!

Sorry about the photo quality as I used my phone to snap these photos. I got this black/white checkered dress from Ally in Carousel and have no idea if I have blogged about it before. I have come to realise my wardrobe is pretty standard when it comes to colours and have since tried to expand that... TRY being the keyword.

Love the prints and its something new in my wardrobe for sure. The gold buttons add an understated glamour factor to this otherwise simple dress. Pretty corporate too especially if I add a nice tailored jacket to it.

This is sort of what sold the dress as well, the back curvelines! Anything thats asymmetrical, and different on the back, I love it. Its something I have picked up living here in Perth and seeing how these girls arent afraid to dress and flaunt their curves. It is harder in Singapore because everyone is so skinny and petite and I feel like such a giant there.

That's ym first time wearing it with a big black quilted clutch and black suede stilettoes. Perfect to take you from the workplace through to drinks and dinner out and about in the city no? So far, I dont see myself putting it up for sale and it remains with me for a while.

A very comfortable piece of clothing I have ever owned. The blue flower printed maxidress from Temt didn't cost me alot. I remember wearing it often to classes and study days because I could hide/fold/stretch my feet under the tent of a skirt. And it was summerdays where you needed a light flowy material that breathes. No regrets there but have decided to share my joy with my cousin who admittedly looks better in it than I do!

Following on with the theme of me NOT dressing weather-appropriate, we have this recent outfit worn to dinner with the girls. And it was just turning cold where the early mornings and late nights felt like the middle of winter.

Yeah, a mid-calf maxi dress. I clearly wasn't thinking straight. Either that or I just really wanted to wear the dress...HEH. Whatever, weather is just a mere obstacle.

I got this pretty little dress from Bugis again at SGD12. I really liked the neckline and the little teeny anchor prints!

I love the nautical theme so this really is perfect for me to fall in love with. Nawwwwww...

I belted it with a brown woven belt to break the monotony and to hide the elastic waistband.

I spent the whole day in uni in it and just drew on some red lips before dinner. With the nautical theme and navyblue/white combination, scarlet red lips are really the perfect accessory to it. The material is also not the lousy light thin cotton kind, but a heavier and thicker material that holds up really well. Not bad for 12bucks!

I did put on a white scarf to go with it and my favourite white Schu-stoppers. I can't wait for spring and summer to roll around so I can bring it out to play with me again!

Good evening people! How's all your Sundays going? Westfield Carousel is open today for telethon and some shops have special one-day only sales. Not that I made use of them because the things I wanted were not in stock and the things I bought were already on sale. Ohhhhhh boy. So after spending my 10am to 3pm today in the mall, I thought it appropriate to blog about clothes.

A black and white striped mid-calves maxi dress with scoop neck and 3/4 sleeves.

I bought this in Bugis and it comes with the brown woven belt for only SGD12 or was it SGD15? Whatever it is, I love it. These vertical stripes don't make me look fat somehow. In my opinion. Phew. The material is too thick for summer though. That's why I brought it over here to Perth. Together with a stained red lip and light black eyeliner, it is a simple yet special dress.

I guess if I wore a black tailored jacket/coat here with Shoestopper #1, it would qualify for corporate wear too. Love dresses with so many options!

And for a lunch/day date with the girls, my favourite white Schu stilettos in Shoestopper #33.

With a red beret and my navyblue Longchamp Le Pilage bag with the Eiffel Tower print, I thought it was perfect for a day out in France. It is wishful thinking though, perhaps one day soon eh.

French chic or demure chic? I think this comfortable dress is sweet and feminine in its own right. How else would you dress it up?

Mayy's Closet #50

It is the weekend again and I still am NOT done with my report for my supervisors. Oops. Nevermind that, at least I finished marking papers. Phew and totally satisfied my laksa craving yesterday. Now my tummy can move along already!

Had a buffet lunch at the Atrium with the honours bunch and Jeanette on the first Monday of our break. Lunch affairs such as wedding or at nice places always gets me. I mean if it is summer and I know my girlfriends will be there, maxidresses are just the no-brainer go to outfits! However, it is winter and I know this bunch don't really dress up. So it was hard for me to decide...

I eventually decided on this new Dotti tunic/dress I got from a recent sale AUD19.95. A steal really because it is so simple and and yet when you put it on, you know you will never go wrong!

A little gold-rimmed button on a small breast pocket. It looks like it is too thin for winter but let me tell you, it is so warm on! Breaking the black monotony, I put on my new red beret from Dangerfield at Myers AUD9. I also put on my new black/leopard print booties from Love Couture. More on it next time eh!

And my black quilted clutch is always perfect for most of my outfits. It is huge enough for my wallet and anything else I wanna throw in. If it was a night event, I could wear black stockings (patterned or not) with it, a gold clutch and black stilettos.

Trying on leopard print stilettos at Forever New. Really wanted to get it but Shiyu kept saying I can't. Sighs. Sportsgirl also had a really nice version too...

Or this one from Bardot? I also found a short cropped one at Dotti but somehow, I could not justify owning one yet. Maybe because my heart belongs to the Forever New one which is so expensive...SIGHS. Which one would you get though? Or do you think it is a short-lived trend? Though I must point out, I always love leopard prints. It is just that now, the fashion world decided it is a trend so there is alot of it to go round...Pfffffft.

Oh alright, what is a day without fashion? Even if I am stuck at home as a sick cat, I can still read about clothes and shoes. Stare at mine and think about the week's outfits. So enough with the chocolate cakes I cannot eat now. Clothes, I can wear regardless of body temperature and whatnots.

I wore this on a teaching day just before Easter holidays, on my last day before I flew off to Singapore/Taiwan in April. It was my first time wearing it and it sure took me a while to get into it. I remembered having initial trouble with this Roxy maxidress in WAVES Carousel. Yes, we got off to a rocky start but I had to have it because I just thought it was a really pretty dress. At AUD65, it is not the cheapest thing I could have gotten given how the zips were not too great. But I eventually found one in all their stocks that were semi working and brought it home with me. I refused to give it up. The negative things about this dress is that the shoulder straps were too thin and made out of ribbon like material which is really just shoddy.

The material of the dress however, is like none other. Silky smooth but not too thin and light as silk. It is a dress meant to be handled very delicately. The prints on it were so elaborate with the little Roxy logos weaved into them. The colours were something I don't really have. It's not called the Mermaid for nothing because I do feel quite pretty in it. Pile on the white, gold and wood bangles and slip on a pair of flat sandals. Dresses like these are not meant to be worn with too much junk. It is a statement on its own. Perfect for summer. And throw on a long white cardigan for spring.

Good morning! No, it is actually 9pm at night now but I only just woke up from my nap. I have a flight tonight home so I thought it wise. I have been having the worst kind of sleep for the past weeks. I always wake up feeling like I have had a marathon night.

Regardless, I have been pushing my body limits. This is one of the dresses I wore to combat fatigue and went out instead last Friday for dinner and a quick shop around in the city with Anna. I spent a whole full day out and about in it, from uni to city.

Not very clear here, it is a new dress from Supre. Yes one of the online buys. I thought it was a flower kind of print that I don't have in my wardrobe. Pretty grandma vintage chic. Flower power 60s look.

So I accessorized accordingly. Gold tear drop earrings and white/gold/wood bangles. I even did my hair up for the day. I liked the shirred neck line and how breezy it is. I wore it on a cool autumn day and well, it didn't seemed to me like it could stand up to the cold but it did somehow. I am impressed. I definitely know how it stacks up on summer days. If on a wintery day, I could just wear black stockings with it and and boots. And a granny knit cardigan. I need me one of those now. We will see.

Well then, that's a blog post for now. Maybe I will do one more but I shldnt think so. You may or may not also hear from me in a week.

Hello! It is Monday and due date for the big report which is slowly causing panic amongst the group of us. I panicked but not today. Thank goodness. Did I mention I love my supervisors? Well, I do. In any case, I had a good weekend invigilating and partying and sort of chillaxing for abit.

Let me blog about a maxi-dress I got as part of my Supre online spree about a month ago now. Time flies, I remembered just getting to know the new friends and now, it's like I have known them for a while now and not just for the past couple of months. Alright alright, back to clothes. The prints are very very busy, tiny flowers on a black background. It is a little too big for me but I guess it is comfortable in that sense. I will live with the size difference. Next time, it's XS not S for Supre maxidresses. The lower half of the dress is slightly tighter so I can't take too big steps in them. Abit more demure.

I feel like I was wearing a sarong or sari skirt or, I feel like an air stewardess. Hahaha. I decided against wedges and went with a simple pair of thongs which contrasted really well colour-wise.

I accessorized with a brown belt and long gold necklace. As usual, bangles of different colours or colours to match your footwear. Take a brown clutch or a tan shopping tote. Boho chic for the day.

Mayy's Closet #30

It was a friend's 21st birthday party last night at Gold Bar in Subiaco. I didn't want to wear something new or wear anything too nice because it is after all, the birthday girl's night. It is like a wedding, she has this glow about her and you just know That is the one everyone is here celebrating for. Anyway, I decided on this toga Supre dress Anna bought for me in Melbourne. I wore it once last December and got compliments from the door babe at Hush etc. Without further ado, here it is. I hardly recycle my clubbing outfits because well, I seemed to keep having new ones. Anyway, I really liked this one and have no qualms to wearing it again. The hot pink is right for my skin tone and the material does not stick to me too much like a second skin. The cutting was just right for a bodycon dress, making certain the cloth for bottom half of the body area is wider. I don't know if you can see it but there are 3 diagonal lines/slight tiers across the body which breaks the monotony. That's the back of the dress. Impossible to wear a bra so thank goodness for sticky tapes.

That is the look for the second time wearing it. Poufy hair, Forever New Shoestopper #3, hoop earrings, single white bangle, a mute pink bronze clutch. Light undereye and dark liner. First time round, I donned the same pair of shoes and piled my hair all to one side with a really long pair of earrings with smoky dark eyes.

Can't wait till next summer when I can take it out with me for more playtime!
