M's Food Find #81

After being here in Perth long enough, I finally made it to this wonderful cafe located right in the heart of Kings Street, the luxury shopping strip that houses LV, Tiffany's and soon Chanel.

My first time here was last year in Oct/Nov with my ex-housemate and I have gone back there a few times subsequently.

No. 44 Kings Street. Prices dont come cheap but the food? Well, lets see.

I like the views though ;)

Luxurious aint it? But totally worth it given the place you are in.

Alas, we had coffee instead. Good strong ones.

My companion's salmon pesto cake brunch. I myself had it before too and found it quite nice. Something different from the usual brunch items. I like the deviation. Hollandaise sauce was abit too thick for my liking.

My banana pancakes. It was amazing. Completely yummy. Had it twice since. Once was while I was nursing a killer hangover. Let me tell you, sugar and sweets do not cure hangover. I felt even shittier after. But the pancakes were good. Now I want some.

Well, the prices are abit steep. But worth the indulgence once in awhile. Especially when the sun is shining, the cool breeze blows, the sky is a brilliant shade of blue. And everyone deserves to be spoiled once in awhile. Take your time. Leisure when you can afford it is already a luxury.

M's Food Find #80

I go to this place really often for brunch. The chef recognises my father who really visits once every year. HAH.

But I really liked the local surfer beach vibe. and right on the Cottesloe Beach strip, the view is great too.

Beaches Cafe on Marine Parade. I have tried quite a few of their items and you order at the counter. Great coffee. and oh, cash only!

My favourite has to be their oven baked open faced omelette. It takes some time to serve up but the wait is so worth it. It used to come served in the hot pan but these days its as pictured above. I quite like the pan idea though. Ingredients vary...but usually its feta cheese, cherry tomatoes and ham/bacon. Sometimes avocado on the side. and spinach! Very healthy and so so so filling!!! really great w toast strips and shared with a friend.

And their eggs benedict is something my sister craves for all the time. It is fresh and the hollandaise sauce done perfectly.

Their baked beans are very yummy too with a slight mexican tang.

Safe to say I return there all the time despite the many choices one has on the Cottesloe Beach strip. and I have been to most of the other places too.

I love the beach. Its what keeping me here in Perth really.

M's Food Find #80

In preparation for the next semester, here's a new place Curtin students can go for in the Waterford Plaza. Tenten can get quite boring albeit pretty good food if we are not fussy, Burger edge is bad for the waistline if too regular visits, Mikasa and Chiliz are old hat.

Jamaica Blue opens in the new wing across the chocolate lounge and looks a world away from books and laptops.

Bright and sunny interior and furnishings.

I absolutely loved the swivel postal stamped printed chairs. They are so comfortable as well!

Serving all-day brekkie if I am not wrong and pretty good coffee.

You also have regular meal choices.

They have their own magazine and I poached one home ;) because of some of the recipes in the mag and Chef Heston is an inspiration.

Sam's full brekkie. Looks nothing special but I guess it should be alright since someone polished the lot off.

The yummy chicken avocado salad!

My smoked salmon eggs ben. A tad too heavy on the hollandaise sauce but otherwise acceptable. Too expensive for the small amount of food in my opinion.

Poached perfectly...
Chia Ling's cinnamon french toast... doesnt look too appetising but when she cut into them, they looked very soft and fluffy!

Since it was quite a hot day, we settled for some chillers. Wished they were stronger on the coffee taste. Heavens know how much I needed coffee... But since Im back in Singapore, I need a stiff drink. I was good on my plane back but lets hope its not the tone for my vacation. Girl needs to let her hair down once in a while.

Back to this place, glad to have it near uni when I need a quick brunch fix.

Till my next food find, Mayy xo

M's Food Find #74

Hello! Time to recover some backlog and more food adventures on the way for you. And me. Here's a Saturday brunch at Toast in East Perth.

It is a beautiful place at the back of some apartments overlooking the river and quite a nice crowd in about 5-6 restaurants/cafe strip. Oh, it is absolutely beautiful and relaxed. I wished I was in the right frame of mind to fully enjoy it but it did help me take a nice short break in the midst of the last couple of weeks to submission.

Toast has inside and outside sittings. We chose inside that day,w ell I did. I think Sam wanted to sit outside. Inside was very homely and cute with white wooden blinds and little knick knacks.

It was about 2ish to 3pm when we went for a late lunch, so relatively quieter but I would reckon it is a busy little place at the right times.

Love the little vessel and big chalkboard.

My fave number!
The menu was very fuss free and quite unique having a little of their own takes on the classic brunches and then some.

You order at the counter filled with so many goodies, I got so distracted! And ordered something wrongly for Sam...oops.

He wanted iced mocha...got him a hot one haha But apparently, their mocha is really good!

I got myself a banana smoothie. Very light and quite bland. Wished it was stronger tasting

Sam ordered the Big Breakfast and the poached eggs were fabulously done even though the others dont look as good and the price was quite steep in my opinion.

I got the crab and dill omelette and was quite disappointed with the presentation. Taste-wise, nothing fantastic really but the crab pieces were fresh.

I leave you with the menu photo and knew in my heart I would return only because I am so intrigued and in love with the place. And I wanted to give it another chance to prove itself. Maybe order another dish that caught my attention! Very health conscious place with egg-white omelettes on the menu.

Cant wait to head back!

M's Food Find #11

Girlfriend and I got a bit lost looking for this food place. It is our first time and I have heard pretty good reviews about it. Even from a fellow pancake-lovin' foodie friend back in Perth who visited Singapore. It was a leisurely Sunday brunch and we finally found our way to Strictly Pancakes on Prinsep Street.

Located in a tiny shophouse in a row behind the big Prinsep Place sign which you can spot from across SOTA, tcc at POM. Your best bet is to walk down from Dhoby Gaut MRT pass the new School of Arts (SOTA). Or the circle line, Bras Besah station and then walk past Coffee Bean, Kopitiam, Hotel Rendezvous, then before the traffic light to cross to SOTA which you do not cross, turn right and walk straight on!

We had to wait for abit to be able to sit inside as we did not make a reservation. So if you know that's where you want to meet up with your friends, call in advance. Otherwise you can sit out in the balmy weather and have leaves all round you. Not my thing. Hahaha. Anyway we were lucky enough to get a table on the second level. Which was well, very tiny and the tables were very close together. Not much for private conversations. I am also NOT impressed with their poor service. Maybe it is the very young service crew and lack of proper communication. Sitting upstairs, I witnessed quite a bit of fluster when it comes to orders and getting iced water and orders taken were really difficult as the staff seemed to always be downstairs. They only surface when they bring food up. My suggestion would be to station one person up there to attend to all the customers. But what do I know, they had a steady stream of customers.

Moving on to the food...Melissa ordered the American brekkie set which will only be available on weekends 10am to 12pm. Strictly Pancakes has a special menu during that time in addition to their normal menu. Nice touch. Maybe I will have to go back and try the normal menu? And the milkshake the table next to mine ordered......Hmmmmmmmm. The American brekkie set was $12 and was a generous portion for that price which also came with coffee. Order their Chilled Brew which is really good. Strong coffee yet icy to cool you off after the trek to their place! Quail's egg done sunny side up is a cute touch but not enough egg for me! Haha. 3 pancakes were plenty, quite a few people ended up with 1 extra they could not finish. I would rather having 2 pancakes and maybe have baked beans or sauteed mushrooms instead.

I ordered the Hawaiian set so I can have a proper full size sunny side up. Bacon was properly done. I like it, juicy and crispy. The grilled pineapple was something different but nothing special. This one cost $11. Couldn't finish all 3 pancakes. I washed this down with Chilled Brew. Yums, but really want to try the milkshake now...

That's the pathetic portion of maple syrup and butter to go with your pancakes. Butter was given just enough and I like how you can choose what kind of butter there is. Four kinds: Salted, Unsalted, Rum and raisin, (i can't rmb the last one). Maple syrup is REALLY NOT ENOUGH to properly wolf down my pancakes. I think that was why I felt the pancakes were not that great. It was a little bland and dry to me.

I would go back again to give it another go for their savoury pancakes and milkshake. If I wanted pancakes and maple syrup, I would go get hotcakes from McDonald's or somewhere like Wild Honey in Mandarin Gallery.

Till my next food find, Mayy xo
