Completely Random

Now after that previous nasty 'review', we do need abit of desserts to cheer us up dont we?

I managed to also catch up with XH during my trip back in October and she brought me to Antoinette at Penhas Road, Lavendar.

I have heard alot about this particular outlet and the exterior did look quite good. The interior with the amazing French Renaissance furniture was like my favourite kind of playground. And the sweets.

I had to try their new cake, Angelique. Hmmm, it was very sweet. too sweet.

XH's - it was not bad. I have had better cake. so nothing to be woah about.

So safe to say my first experience was not really that good food-wise. But i had a wonderful time drinking my favourite earl grey tea and chatting with my girl after months away.

Looking forward to more tea-time with my girlfriends and even dudes on my next trip back.

M's Food Find #75

I may need to rethink the whole label-titles of the blog. I am finding it to be slightly irrelevant... ANYHOW, some cakes never did anybody harm. so this time I went back, I had quite a few. And on one occasion, I met Aiky for lunch before deciding we are having tea too...

So we did. At Tiong Bahru Bakery Raffles City. Its apparently one of the new things so I had to try it right?

The display didnt quite excite me but I chose the three that did stir the tummy.

Thats the chocolate mendiant. Good dark chocolate but found the whole thing slightly too hard. Maybe thats how its supposed to be but the cold hardness kinda didnt gel all that well together.

I love pandan, so I decided to try the pandan flan. But, it really didnt live up to that name. The pandan flavour was quite tame, and bland. Very egg-custardy though. So it didnt leave me much.

Aiky loves their chocolate croissant so we ordered one. Having had so many amazing croissants, this particular one fell flat. Was not puffy and buttery like it should be. It was flat and a bit tough. It had been out for awhile I guess. But really just ain't worth it.

As you can probably surmised that I am not a big fan thus far, it would be safe to say that I won't be returning anytime soon. But apparently the original branch at Tiong Bahru is better so I may give it a go there? And perhaps try their croissants again when I see it fresh out of the ovens?

Have you been? How was your experience like?

Kitchen Venture #11

During the height of my stress, I bought a cake mix and left it with the girls because we just didnt get round to baking it.

Sure looks good doesn't it and I have never baked before. Thought it would be fun. And we finally got round to doing so a few weeks back when Ive completed.

Baking away in the oven and I used my castle cake mould I got from Kmart. Cutest thing ever!

All done, alittle disappointed it didnt rise enough to fill the stairs.

Now the right side up and after a bit of a wiggle...

TA-DAH!

Looks pretty cute! We didnt get frosting so couldn't dress it up.

Pretty moist and airy. Kinda sweet and tastes alot like a good pancake to be honest!

So we snacked on it with maple syrup! It is pretty good in my opinion. Nothing fancy, good enough for a movie night in and quick baking!

Till my next kitchen venture, Mayy xo

M's Food Find #64

Have you ever thought hard about where to go after dinner nearby? A nice cafe for coffee and cake to continue interesting conversations and you just dont want the night to end yet? I mean, why ruin a good time when the dinner place you were at had to rush you out. I faced this dilemma a couple of weeks ago and had no choice but to settle for bubble tea when I was at Victoria Park.

While walking down to Utopia Bubble Tea, I spied this little place where I was always curious about. Feeling adventurous (HA HA), I wandered in and I knew I just found one of my favourite places around.

Love the mood lighting and friendly yet quiet chatter going round. The lovely aroma of coffee wafts through.

A clearer display awaits at the end of the post...

Out of everything, I ordered the sticky date toffee pudding in the cup. Warmed up and soft.

Looks amazing and as much as I wanted everything else, I knew I had to order this one! I JUST LOVE STICKY DATE PUDDINGS! It came with ice-cream which I declined. I found this properly sweet and very moist. YUMS. The best I've found in Perth so far.

Cute bamboo wall at the far end.

2 cappucinos and it was lovely. Amazing good coffee, fragrant and felt like a dance.

Really small place, I was sitting sort of in the middle so there's abit more at the back. Front window had high chairs and table. Very cosy and they also serve some hot food and tapas.

A closer view of the yummy cake display! You can be sure I will be back for more and I definitely now know where to go to for a spot of coffee and cake with a friend or after dinner chillout nearby... Meanwhile, I shan't be rude. Here's the address ;)

M's Food Find #57

I had a Harry Potter marathon weekend with the girls at their new place over the weekend. Suffice to say I ate my weight in potatoes, brownies, strudels and chocolates. And we are still not done. I suspect its the cold weather. Oh boy, alot of weightloss to do when summer rolls round! Better figure out a way to balance it all out. Because I haven't been gymming either. Pfffffft.

Alright, back to topic. This is probably nothing new to Perthites nor students studying around here. But there are a new batch coming in already and for those still NOT in the know, this blog post is a tribute to a cute quirky funky little cafe down in the chic suburb of Leederville.

Yes, no prizes for guessing that I am referring to Green's & Co. where they serve a HUGE range of cakes and amazing coffee.... I quote my friend Aik Leng here: "a slice of heaven, a life of sin"

That's their berry apple crumble which was pretty good with a nice crunch from the apples and buttery crumble. Not the best I have had but goes well with a good mocha.

I secretly have a mission for this cafe. To try every one of their cakes... So far, here's what I have tried.

Chocolate halva is something I would recommend you NOT to have. Unless you like watery half-baked cakes. Because that's what it is. The thought of it, the recollection is enough to make me want to yak.

Amazing coffee, their cappucino and latte are so fragrant. But the chai latte is abit too sweet for me even.

That's the chocolate orange tart which is good I suppose. You can certainly taste both flavours and I conclude a good end to a dinner. Definitely one for the jaffa lovers.

On a prior visit, I had the honeycomb brulee. It was very sweet and had a egg custardy filling. Not entirely awesome, rather just have honeycomb on its own...

Chocolate fudge cake, similar to the ones they have in San Churro's. As well as their hazelnut chocolate triangle cake. Good chocolatey cakes are never wrong choices but the cream is a wee bit too thick. Go for the traingle cake if you are not a cream fan.

I ordered this peanut caramel meringue cake on my last visit. A thick wedge of cream there is quite sickening but the nutty base and the nutella-ish topping are both super yummy. Just wished they had better proportions of the different parts.

I also tried the Chocolate Marshmellow cake on my very first visit to this place. This is my TOP choice out of everything (without a dot) so far. I loved the chewy sweet gooey marshmellow filling mixed with the moist chocolate cake. Yumyumyum. Can't wait till I finish all the other flavours and finally can go back to ordering that... Yes, when I make up my mind about something, I generally want to complete it.

yes generally coffee and cake but they have yummy teas too.

Choco berry pavlova was a good choice for those who love sweet sticky treats. I had the banana pavlova on a prior visit as well. As I am extremely partial to bananas, I would choose that over the choc berry one. However, I must acknowledge it is not for everyone and quite filling. Stick to choc berry for those who want a good end to their dinner and not a big fan of bananas.

You can borrow the various connect 4 sets to play with. Bring your own games if you wish. Play pool or pac man on their vintage machines.

Deep in thought during our mini Connect 4 competition!

The place is lighted up with paper laterns all over the ceilings and walls plastered with every kind of concert posters with the odd television screens protruding out. It is just filled with quirky things and happy chatters from the patrons. It can get quite crowded and the sofas get filled very quickly. Couples hang out, friends laugh together, families sit together.

Look out for updates on this particular post because I will be going back to complete my cake missions!

Mayy loves Cupcakes!

I thought I would blog my love for cupcakes and how it extends to even special occasions. A Cinderella-themed birthday cupcake tier for the princess of the day!

Let the photos speak for themselves!

The Precious Moments musical box which inspired the delicious treats...

Cinderella-blue butterflies

It does sort of look like a pretty icing edible garden eh? Love the handmade tier.

Happy party goers enjoying the treats by CakeFuntasie (www.cakefuntasie.com). The vanilla cupcakes and icing were so good and the baker girls were lovely. It was a pleasure working with them and look at their finished product!
