M's Food Find #75

I may need to rethink the whole label-titles of the blog. I am finding it to be slightly irrelevant... ANYHOW, some cakes never did anybody harm. so this time I went back, I had quite a few. And on one occasion, I met Aiky for lunch before deciding we are having tea too...

So we did. At Tiong Bahru Bakery Raffles City. Its apparently one of the new things so I had to try it right?

The display didnt quite excite me but I chose the three that did stir the tummy.

Thats the chocolate mendiant. Good dark chocolate but found the whole thing slightly too hard. Maybe thats how its supposed to be but the cold hardness kinda didnt gel all that well together.

I love pandan, so I decided to try the pandan flan. But, it really didnt live up to that name. The pandan flavour was quite tame, and bland. Very egg-custardy though. So it didnt leave me much.

Aiky loves their chocolate croissant so we ordered one. Having had so many amazing croissants, this particular one fell flat. Was not puffy and buttery like it should be. It was flat and a bit tough. It had been out for awhile I guess. But really just ain't worth it.

As you can probably surmised that I am not a big fan thus far, it would be safe to say that I won't be returning anytime soon. But apparently the original branch at Tiong Bahru is better so I may give it a go there? And perhaps try their croissants again when I see it fresh out of the ovens?

Kitchen Venture #9: Brownies by Donna Hay

Alright, so I didn't technically bake this but I did buy the premix by Donna Hay! One of our snacks during the Harry Potter marathon we did earlier in the month. Brownies!!! All girls/guys love a good chocolatey brownie no?

Shiyu baked this while I helped vacuum the house. Wasn't difficult and time-consuming at all. The instructions were clear on the pale blue box and you need only provide your own butter and eggs. Chocolate chunks were provided too! At abt AUD7 a box, I would say YUMS.

It may not look too pretty here because we didnt actually use a proper cake tin. However, I LOVE THE IDEA of adding chocolate chunks to the brownie becauseit is gooey and melts in your mouth as you bite into the chewey chocolatey brownie. The top layer was wonderfully crisp and the inside of the brownie moist and chewy. I love the smell wafting through the house as it bakes. Salivating and I know I couldn't stop eating them. Shiyu had to cut them into smaller pieces because I could NOT stop.

So even if you didn't have the premix help from the dessert angel aka Donna Hay, but would like to have a lovely twist to your ordinary brownie, chocolate chunks are IT. Once your batter and mixture are all done, just chuck about 500g of big chocolate squares into that and stir, scoop the mixture into your tin and make sure the choc chunks are evenly spread out throughout, within or above. Makes for a yummy gooey surprise ;)

M's Food Find #54

I managed to keep to my plan and spent the whole day home today. And didn't spend anything. I also didn't bother cooking or whatever. I just ate Lucky Charms cereal the whole day. A bowl with milk, a couple of cups without, then with milk again. And then without and with hot cereal milk. I definitely finished more than half the box today. Can this much sugar eventually kill you? Other than that, I had a slice of toast with Vegemite Cheesybite and a slice of cheese. And some fried salted sliverfish. Just to balance out, I needed some salt. Not the healthiest days eh?

ANYWAY, now that all I like doing these days is snacking (partly due to me spending so much time in uni where the staff pantry can get some good stuff now and again). I found something I REALLY liked, out of all the kinds of biscuits we get:

Arnott's chocolate Scotch Fingers.

And it has to be the chocolate ones. The milk chocolate is so creamy and milky and cocoa-ish. It goes really well with the slightly salty crumbly buttery fingers. I love how a bite of it melts in your mouth. Super awesome. Blogging about it now makes me want to get off my bum and drive down to Woolies and get some. Thank goodness I am too lazy for that.

I have so much work to do or should start doing. But I told myself I am going to give myself this weekend off before I officially kick butt come Monday. Hence, the full day of watching telly today. Oh alright. NO MORE KFC AND HUNGRY JACKS AND SNACKING AT HOME. Not that I eat Hungry Jacks anymore but I thought I would just add it to the list for good measure. Let's just start being healthy again.

Winter sure does some bad things to my cravings and to a body. WELL, IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED THESE SCOTCH FINGERS, and you like Tim Tams and chocolate and shortbread cookies, this is IT. GO!

Completely Random

Yes, about right now. Some chocolate would be good. Even better, Godiva truffles and pralines. Sis got them from someone and she didnt want to eat them...So I had the whole box to myself. Yes, the cause of my sore throat and all abt a month back, Who cares.

IT IS CHOCOLATE! So important for stress relief, uplifting sad moods, energizer, OH THEY ARE ALL GOOD. YUMMY!

Mayy loves Desserts!

I keep thinking how am I ever going to properly categorize these photos. Then, it hit me today. Desserts. As simple as that. I love desserts. I have one of the sweetest tooth around. I know, shocking. NOT. On most days when I don't get salt cravings, I am happy to settle for any kind of desserts. I may not be hungry or I may be stuffed and bloated, I can always still eat a dessert. It is like I have two separate stomachs! Maybe it is because most desserts are so pretty to look at too... It is a girl thing but then again, find me a man who loves desserts as much as I do please.

Anyway, for Mother's Day, if Mum thinks flowers are frivolous or it isn't her thing, maybe chocolates? Or cakes. If she has a thing for sweets. And if you can't make up your mind, get both. Why not?

Or this cake from Bakerzin! Edible flowers on a really good chocolate cake. It is not too big. But the flavours pack a punch.

Or a similar one from New York New York. Without the flowers. Just a really dark chocolate, and maybe a little rum? I can't remember but it sure was good. A tad dry.

However, Bakerzin's one is much better. More moist.

I cannot remember where I got this. Am thinking it's from an italian restaurant in Bukit Timah, Singapore. Chocolate truffle cake. Need I say more? The chocolate wall is divine.

Gobi always makes for pretty packaging and cakes. Sure to make your mummy smile.

They are all good. The white chocolate one a tad too sweet but I like the milkiness of it.

I told you they were pretty. Too tiny for the flavours to really settle in my mouth. But hey, a good marketing strategy. I am going to head back for more.

From Goodwood Park Hotel bakery. I remember the tastes well. The green cake was abit of a mystery, not so good at that. Lime perhaps, I remember a zest there. The baby macaron was good, it did melt in my mouth. Raspberry if I recall right. Something quite different.

So Sweets YAY! or no thank you, not for you? Well, I don't see an end to this blog chapter. Hahahaha.

M's Food Find #40

Daniel is in Perth again and we decided to meet up with Shiyu for dinner. Just like how we brought him out for burgers last year, it's burgers again this time at Grill'd, Claremont Quarters. I am glad the place is open for Sunday dinners. So many restaurants are closed on such a good night for business.

I really like the area, so quiet and classy and the restaurant is such a family oriented, down-to-earth sort of place. I would totally have a sunday family night out here every other week if I lived here.


Healthy? Because of the ingredients they used.

Earthy colours and fuss free. It soon got very very busy. Lucky we went down early.

Simple menu which I wish included a fish burger.

That's my order of a chicken burger named Caesar Palace. Had a grilled chicken pattie, free-range egg, cos lettuce and trim bacon.



On a panini bun, there is a choice of traditional sesame bun or panini. No regrets there because the bun is so soft and yummy. Much better than the chewy ones at Juz Burgers and Burger Bistro. The grilled chicken was tender and the bacon complemented it well. I love having an egg in my burger and the cos lettuce is fresh and crunchy. I absolutely enjoyed my burger. Will drive all the way down there for it!

Nurun's beef burger, had a cute name but I can't remember.

Daniels' mid-west beef burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Guess it says alot when all four of us had an empty plate at the end of it.

We ordered the regular chips to share with a herbed mayo dip.

The chips had a herb mix sprinkled on it with salt and was really different in a good way so have to have it. I prefer Burger Bistro's chips though but the herb mayo dip is so fresh and good here. If you want chips to go with your burger, you can also order a small snack pack.

Photos from the take-away menu which shows the directions getting there. All in all, a high distinction visit I definitely want to repeat soon. You can also end the night at Koko Black with cakes, hot chocolate and ice cream.

M loves Hershey's Nuggets!

Brrrrrr... it's getting cold here in Perth and I still refuse to wear proper thick clothes at home so I rather freeze my bum off. I think one of the best/worst things about the cold weather is that I absolutely crave for chocolate, almost all the time. The craving used to only hit once a month, but not anymore. I have since had alot of weird cravings, especially burgers and salt and vinegar potato chips.

The problem with my cravings is that I crave for specific things. Even if I get something similar but not the exact one. It does NOT satisfy the craving. I end up wanting more, and my brain will be occupied with it. ANYWAY, we are talking about chocolates weren't we? Yeah. I had 4 Godiva pralines a few days ago and then 2 easter eggs yesterday which resulted in me having a 'sexy' voice but thankfully no sore throat. I think my voice is back to normal today. Nevertheless, I was looking through my photobank and guess what. I saw photos of chocolates. It brought back some memories, and a particular craving. UH OH...

Have you seen them before? They are HERSHEY's NUGGETS! Oh lordie, I don't think they have it ANYWHERE here. If you knew me way back in secondary school or even JC, I used to buy loads of them whenever I go to Bangkok for a vacation and bring it to school and hand them out to friends. OR maybe I bought loads and stashed them away for personal consumption.

Singapore had them for a really short while and then discontinued the line. I was so bummed out but ecstatic when I rediscovered them in Bangkok's 7-eleven and supermarkets. It really has been a while since I had them. I also don't recall Hershey's World shops in RWS selling them...

A very rare sighting. Cherry dark chocolate flavour. Luxurious gold wrapping but still not my favourite flavour.



And no prizes for guessing that this is MY favourite of the lot. COOKIES AND CREAM!!! Nevermind it comes in silver and blue, quite a nice colour combi BUT the taste!

Yes, they also come in a stick of four. The white creamy chocolate is sweet enough for any sweet tooth and the cookies crunch is so generous! I would pop the whole nugget in my mouth and had to have two at least.

If anyone in the world out there knows where I can get these, I will be eternally grateful. Tell me. So I have hope that it is still being sold and I have the chance of having it in my life once again...

M's Food Find #35

Koko black is the whole point of our visit to Claremont Quarters yesterday. Also, it was my first time there. The place looks good, shops looking as brand spanking new as Singapore's malls. I was really quite excited then I realised nothing was open for business. So I could ony peer through the glass windows. It is situated right inside the mall, and opened till really late like 11pm on weekends. I spied a burger place outside and am devastated I could not get me some burgers. Sighs. Who wants to drive down with me again to get burgers? Hahahaha.

That's the glass of iced chocolate. I had the hot chocolate and am thankful I ordered that because in my opinion, it is alot less sinful and a whole lot better. Maybe because I was not feeling very warm in the cold wind.

Anna and I ordered the Queen of hearts tier. I was looking forward to some real sweet stuff. Alas, I was sorely disappointed. Maybe because I had dinner, but the savoury sandwiches and quiches were not what I wanted even though they were good. Love toasties!

Lamington was alright, the chocolate slice was too small, the panna cotta was lovely with amazing vanilla beans, the lemon tart TOO SOUR, the creme brulee tart yummy.

That's the belgian spoil for two and is really quite pathetic because ONE girl can finish that. I would say we were all looking forward to yummy pretty things. While the place certainly looks adorable, the desserts did not meet our expectations. Maybe they were too high and we felt a little let down. I would say for us living on this side of the river, San Churros offer you the hot and iced chocolate just as well, and Jean Pierre in the city kicks Koko Black's ass any other day.
