M's Food Find #78

Another wayy overdue post.

This fantastic burger place is along Murray Street, far end of the Perth city.

It looks unassuming but the place was bustling as the young night grew darker.

The waiters were all really hot by the way.

That's right. GOURMET BURGER SHACK.

cool. but abit too dimly lit.

My friend's option of the no bun burger.

I found the bun nicely toasted. Soft and crunchy. The patty was very well-flavoured. The cheese was amazing too. Oh boy. it is so good.

And all washed down with this yummy refreshing cider...

Would I return? YES. Now, it is abit further than most eateries are so the location is absolutely ideal. Would I make the trek? Yups. =)

M's Food Find #67

I don't know if the Rockpool post has already wished you had a better dinner in front of you tonight but this one will make you wish you had an even better one or perhaps inspire your lunch tomorrow!

Dad wanted seafood while he was here, and since his clients brought him out to Freo, it made no sense to travel there again. So I took them to Kaili's Bro's in Leederville for lunch. We didn't make any reservations but managed to score something since we were kinda early. I can't believe it really was all packed and full when proper lunch hours kicked in and people started arriving. The chitter chatter and buzz really made the place really lively and homely feeling since we had quite a few large families arriving in spite of the corporate set.

They had a live seafood market just next to the restaurant and while you could select the seafood and have them cook for you, the prices are really not worth that extra effort I reckon because the chefs already did quite well in their selections.

One of our entrees was the garlic prawns. AMAZING and with the slightest hint of butter. Very yummy too. Prawns are a tad overcooked but at least they were fresh so it didn't kill the taste too much. The bread that came with was really good in comparison to that of Rockpool and Modo Mio.

Dad just had to have his chilli mussels. These are pretty hot which is good.

Shared this with Mum, the salmon dish. Very generous portion with a good price to it.

Yummy and quite succulent. Well done.

Sis had to have her fish and chips but of course, a better grade compared to Freo's. Light crispy fresh batter is the key I reckon. yumyum, could have had more me and her! haha

We also ordered the breaded scallops. Ohhhhh, these were so good! One each wasn't enough! The scallops were so fresh and juicy. The hint of butter and garlic and the breaded top bits go so perfectly with the sweetness of the scallops. Top job!

We sat next to the table which ordered the crab linguine which smelled divine! Would have to go back and try that one next. We didn't have any desserts since we were in Leedy and we had San Churros to go to or Green's if you want!

M's Food Find #52

BURGER MONSTER IS BACK AT IT! Cravings are the worst and best things to have because (a) you know what you want to eat, (b) you know EXACTLY what is it you want, (c) you will NOT rest till you finally get it. Right.

The new burger place, Burger Edge at Waterford Plaza, Karawara sits right at the corner of their new 'precinct'. They have it in the city as well, at the food court of the new mall, NEX100 or something like that.

Didn't bring my camera out with me, so photos were taken using my Blackberry Torch

That's Alina's burger order. I know it is beef but I cannot remember which version it was.

Looks a little flat from this angle... A meal comes with chips and a drink. There are two sizes to the meal option or you can just have the burger.

That is my chicken burger, the Hula which has pineapple and bacon and chicken fillet.

I chose the soft turkish bun which really is soft at an additional cost of 50cents. There are four kinds of bread to choose from. If you are not fussy, then I am sure the normal sesame buns would do. The pineapple sweeten the whole burger, the chicken fillet a little dry for me but at least it was not too tough. Bacon was not overly fried so that is a plus.

Jeremy's Meat Lover burger, there is salad for the burger but he opted to just have beef and bacon. Okayyyyyyyyy. Truly a meat lover there.

Kenneth's beef burger, I cannot remember what it is called. But hey, no complaints so far!

Steven's chicken burger.

Janis' burger which I have a feeling may be a vegan one but I really cannot remember. However, I know it is NOT fish because they don't have one.

A large bowl of chips is the way to go. I think there are about five toppings for you to choose from. Salt, Chook salt, Spicy etc. Not the best chips I have had but I still liked the thickness and a good potato filling. Overall, a 6.5/10.

Eveline was the healthy one and ordered the feta veggie burger. There are quite a few burgers to choose from but the prices are pretty steep for its quality. Given the distance uni is from V Burger Bar, I would go that little extra mile for that. Burger Edge is really nothing to crow about and the only edge they have over all the other burger places is that they serve MILKSHAKES. Yes, a good milkshake is the PERFECT end to a burger meal. However, I did not get one because it was alittle late in the night when we had dinner.

And they also have onion rings!!! They call it gourmet onion rings but frankly there is nothing gourmet about it, except I chose to have the parmesan and oregano topping. At $4.50, I would much rather go have the ones at V Burger Bar. However, it is nice to know I have the option closeby when an OR craving hits. There are quite alot of OR to go around in a standard bowl but it was wasn't freid properly or properly coated. The flour could not hold the ring shape well.

While it is nothing compared to Grill'd and the bistro and even JusBurgers, it is the next best thing we have to a more gourmet burger so close by, only very slightly comparable to V Burger Bar.

Good to have a try myself and unlikely for me to return. What say you, am I a burger snob?

M's Food Find #48

Ho ho ho BURGER TIME!

Finally popped down to the V Burger Bar down in East Vic Park which is one of the nearer burger places to me. And to think I have been going so far to look for good ones...

A really simple menu, not much but they have a salmon burger which looks pretty good.. though I didn't go for it on that day. Only just recovered from being sick so I thought I would be heathy and order the Mediterranean vegetables one!

It really is a small shop corner across the Balmoral and Dome. It has its own little parking spaces right at its doorstep. We were there for early dinner at about 5pm so still not many people.

I also ordered a side of onion rings.

This is such a good deal at only AUD4 for the yummy dip and perfectly crunchy onion rings.

This is Li Jia's beef burger with a side of chips.

Yes she wanted the best of both worlds and ordered the burger with onion rings in it. It looked real yummy and I know many friends told me they love this one too.

That's my burger. Just zucchini and peppers and I added an egg to it. The egg was abit too welldone for me. Preferred a big of runny yolk...

Very healthy you would think, but I felt it was just too oily. Their chips were not as good as Grill'd and the bistro but their onion rings really is tops. Besides the only other burger place that serves o'rings are Juz Burgers.

The grilled toasted buns were also quite nice, not as tough as the ones in Juz Burgers and the bistro. I don't know if it is because I just recovered from being sick. I couldn't finish my food and felt so ill from oil overload. Their food is undeniably good. As for whether they are healthy, I can't testify to that. But then again, we are having burgers and chips and onion rings here.

I would definitely head back again to try their salmon burger and I know people love their beef burgers so it's worth a trip down.

And after lunch or dinner at V Burger Bar, take a a few seconds walk down to Dome for a cup of hot ginger tea or coffee or a slice of cake to cap your night off. Suhweet!

M's Food Find #40

Daniel is in Perth again and we decided to meet up with Shiyu for dinner. Just like how we brought him out for burgers last year, it's burgers again this time at Grill'd, Claremont Quarters. I am glad the place is open for Sunday dinners. So many restaurants are closed on such a good night for business.

I really like the area, so quiet and classy and the restaurant is such a family oriented, down-to-earth sort of place. I would totally have a sunday family night out here every other week if I lived here.

Healthy? Because of the ingredients they used.

Earthy colours and fuss free. It soon got very very busy. Lucky we went down early.

Simple menu which I wish included a fish burger.

That's my order of a chicken burger named Caesar Palace. Had a grilled chicken pattie, free-range egg, cos lettuce and trim bacon.

On a panini bun, there is a choice of traditional sesame bun or panini. No regrets there because the bun is so soft and yummy. Much better than the chewy ones at Juz Burgers and Burger Bistro. The grilled chicken was tender and the bacon complemented it well. I love having an egg in my burger and the cos lettuce is fresh and crunchy. I absolutely enjoyed my burger. Will drive all the way down there for it!

Shiyu's brie chicken burger.

Nurun's beef burger, had a cute name but I can't remember.

Daniels' mid-west beef burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Guess it says alot when all four of us had an empty plate at the end of it.

We ordered the regular chips to share with a herbed mayo dip.

The chips had a herb mix sprinkled on it with salt and was really different in a good way so have to have it. I prefer Burger Bistro's chips though but the herb mayo dip is so fresh and good here. If you want chips to go with your burger, you can also order a small snack pack.

Photos from the take-away menu which shows the directions getting there. All in all, a high distinction visit I definitely want to repeat soon. You can also end the night at Koko Black with cakes, hot chocolate and ice cream.

Strawberry iced chocolate

Baby ice cream of toasted sesame chocolate ripple which is awesome and a not so good opera cake.
