Bubblegum pop colours seemed to be injected into nearly every spring/summer collections here in Aussie fashion chains. And the footwear isnt spared either.

But long before they did that, I had this pair of pop blue coloured pumps amongst my shoe collection. Initially I thought the colour was alittle difficult to match it with but turned out, I managed to wear it nearly every day if I could no matter what outfit I had on. It instantly jazzed up the outfit by having this soft bright blue on my feet.

This pair has since been retired because of frequent wear. Rubi flats really dont last me very long and Im glad it usually comes at affordable price tags. Which in this case, only $5 ;)

Shoestopper #47

So much food! So less food and do abit more walking...well, theoretically. With shoes!

Recently retired pair during the weekend but very sad to see go... =(

Gold pumps with black lace overlay and suede inner lining from Rubi shoes. Very on trend and pretty eh? Takes you from day to night...

Initially it was quite an uncomfortable pair with a very stiff back. But funny enough, it didnt leave blisters nor cut me.

So I wore it out on more occasions taking it to a very comfortable level. It looked very wellworn on the soles as well by the end of it. The suede (faux probably) lining was so comfortable but on hindsight needed socks with it for it to last longer.

Shoestopper #43

A pair of comfortable pair of shoes to drive away Monday blues. These days, I have to wake up especially early in this wintery cold weather for a class at 8am. It is getting a wee bit difficult, truth be told. And I don't normally function that badly except now I battle insomnia. Sighs.

Enough about my sleeping, or lack thereof, issues. Shoes lift my mood up and just explaining some accounting issues using shoes and brands as illustrations help me feel better too! While I am tottering my Monday away on a pair of heels, I wished I had this pair with me right now...

This cute preppy green/gold/white checkered pattern ballet style flats really takes the cake for a clean-cut look. I didn't wear it often till this year and had to unfortunately retired it a couple of months ago... If I ever do see it again, I would get it one more time!

The material used here is a thick cloth with the insoles made of the same material. While it may seem coarse to the finger touch but they are actually quite comfortable. The only bad point is that you gotta somehow wear socks with these, as the material isn't too good for sweaty feet! Eeuch, smell.

I was also quite afraid of getting it dirty since it is white but it remained white as no matter how many times I wore it! Amazing.

So how do you like this pattern? Too difficult to match or too cute for words?

After all these excessive eating in real life and blogging about food, I think some exercise may be in order... Well, even if it's just blogging about shoes. HEH. Makes not much sense.

Rubi flats are really made for the walking. I have had so many colours and designs in this particular style! They go so easily with most outfits, very easy to slip on and off when you are in a rush. They look good most of the time and definitely don't make you look sloppy. Even when you want to look sloppy. Dainty and feminine with the rounded toe.

No surprises on why I bought this copper bronze metal colour. It is actually because of the blue interior! One of my favourite colours, it is irresistable. Too bad I wear it out already due to frequent wearing. Sighs and the fact that it got wet from heavy rain. Sure they don't last too long but they are also cheap! Makes you feel alot less guilty for buying many of them at a go or on different days ;)

Shoestopper #39

Hello there, how was your weekend everyone? I hope yours had been better than mine, and a whole lot less stress-free. While I did have my share of some fun, I also couldn't enjoy the whole experience properly with work weighed down in my mind. I just feel so so lost and blank, and unmotivated. Oh boy. But I am getting there and back to the right state of mind. My competitiveness probably pushes me.

Aside from all that, I was also busy with the clothes selling facebook pages. Pfffffft, it's hard trying to be efficient and organised but people just take their time or not give conclusive replies. It is a nightmare and a headache. I should learn to just let go alittle and learn to live alittle. Before we move on to food, let's do a tribute to a pair of shoes I said farewell to over this week...

My taupe-coloured pair of Rubi flats/pumps which probably costs me AUD10. I love the look of suede, that is no secret. They are so high maintenance if its the real thing. This particular one is faux suede. But the look of it is so luxe and corporate. It appeals to the organised neat freak in me. Just very clean and simple. This colour is also very easy to match. Rubi's suede-like flats are very comfortable and once broken into, they become quite soft.

On top of all that, I prefer the pointed sharp front compared to round ones. Always been a personal preference. Just makes the feet slimmer in my opinion and a more professional end to the outfit. Perhaps, its a characteristic trait... What do you think, which do you prefer?

So in the mood to be partying! Here's a dress I bought last summer from City Beach in Harbourtown at AUD29. I think the brand is Moolala. Wore it out once during a Saturday night out in Perth. The size is not perfect for me but I refused to leave it in the shops. The shoulders were alittle too wide. BUT it has got to come home with me.

I love the mesh sides and mesh deep V plunging neckline. The back ends in a very low V bare back. I totally forgot to take a photo of it! But perhaps when I wear it again, I will. I think sis and mum saw the photo and think it to be a little too revealing. Er no, the bits are all covered and the dress is long enough too. I had a real good night in it.

I also don't have the orangey coral colour in my wardrobe. Something different! I paired it with the sequinned Rubi Shoestopper #4 and a silver clutch from Portsman. Instead of leaving my hair down like I always do, I put it up in a cheerleader high ponytail. Pile on the black rubber bracelets. Eyeliner, mascara and silver glitter on the eyes. We are all set now!

Enough with my face, let's blog about shoes! This is a pair that I wore for the first time on Tuesday and subsequently, Friday and Saturday. Quite a feat (no pun intended), I must say. Especially for a pair of 4 inches wedges.

I remembered in Oct/Nov 2010 when I was shopping in Carousel's Rubi and saw this pair under the New Arrivals section. I first noticed the one in black colour and thought it looked really really chunky and sort of striked it off. However, my friend was looking and trying out shoes I THINK and I thought let's put this on for fun! And I did...turned out I really liked how it looked on me and yeahh. I didn't end up buying it that day as I couldn't justify the pricetag and having one more pair for shoes. So in Dec 2010, I was back in Rubi at Carousel and saw that this particular design went on sale! For AUD10, I could totally justify it! I only had the problem on deciding which colour to buy: black, camel or this one.

The cutting is actually at size 38 a little big for my feet. Not the best fit I must admit. I think that is also sort of why I put off wearing it in the beginning for fear it will hurt. The faux suede really does make the pair of shoes look more expensive and less hookerish, in my opinion. The cork wedges also really characterizes summer well and just goes with dresses and shorts wonderfully! I even wore it with my maxidress for dinner last night! It doesn't quite hurt but I cannot walk too well in it. I have put insoles in them which does help the problem. I was also initially afraid that it will look very chunky and ugly, but that did not translate into a reality when I wear it. Sure the wedges are abit thicker and so high, but it really is as dainty as it could be. It does its best as you can tell in the photos in my Closet posts.

Not a purchase I am regretting at all, but I do wish Australia carried size 37 for it for a better fit. My fats don't go to my feet, they head straight to the hips, thighs and bums. So no worries about my feet looking ugly but a slight problem for finding shoes that fit exactly well. OH ALRIGHT, not THAT big a problem given my shoe collection.

Shoestopper #21

Yes! MORE SHOES! I am just a happy girl when there are shoes, shopping and food. Oh and when I clean my house. I am also happy with that.

I know, I am a bit boring lately with the Rubi flats posts but bear with me for just one more now! I do tend to post what is current in MY life. But I promise this pair of Rubi flats will be more exciting with some pizzazz.

A close-up shot of the sequins which then show you it isn't neccessarily that BLING for the day. It is NO surprise that I will fall in love with this pair of shoes. The gold, the sequins, the luxe interior lining of black satin.

When I first set eyes on it, I knew I will get it. But I had slight reservations as to how often I will wear it and how I can pull the look off. I bought at full price, AUD29.95 I think. And kept thinking it is a night pair of shoes. Turned out after I wore it one time, I didn't want to wear any other pairs at that time. I started wearing it out daytime, nighttime, pairing it with dresses, shorts, everything I could get away with. It always brought me some form of glamour everyday. Till I realised I was wearing it out faster than anything. So I stopped and reduced it to occasional. Sadly, I still wore it to death and I had no choice but to retire it on last Sunday when I noticed I was walking around with the soles hanging by that much. Oops. Guess it's money worth eh?

Shoestopper #20

Today, I had to throw away another pair of Rubi flats because the soles were peeling off and it got a whole heap of sand/dirt in it after being blown onto the sand/dirt two nights ago. Oh wells... so here's a post to remember the shoe by.

There she is, a shiny bronze colour with a darker exotic skin print on the inner rim. It really does go with anything. So that's good for whenever I don't want to rack my brains or in a rush and havaianas just can't go. That is one recurring theme when I pick my everyday shoes. However, I do wish it was not such a darker dull bronze. I felt it was not as feminine as I would like. For AUD5, I cannot be complaining anyway.

This is also not my first such pair of flats.

Ta-dah! That is my first pair with the similar design, just a different colour scheme. No prizes there for noticing the black-gold colour combination. HEH. This one was taken after I have worn it out quite a bit. It was really very comfortable and the shape held pretty well with the material the black part was made out of. Unfortunately, this one had to be retired after a year or so. Yes, this one lasted quite a while! Surprise surprise! I also think I paid full price for this pair at AUD19.95 or AUD29.95.

Mayy's Closet #1

For my 100th post, I have decided to be shameless and post my face here. For a new blog segment too! It's in reference to my closet and sort of records my daily outfits. I have started with the outfit I wore today for my second day in the second week of uni.

I am wearings a dress from Bardot (for the first time and I got it like last year) and stilettos from Kenji in Myers. The photo has really bad exposure due to super strong sunlight and I am very noob at adjusting my camera modes. So I just ended up reducing brightness on the computer after I have uploaded it.

Yes, a toilet shot in uni as backup in case the above photo turned out to be unusable. I guess the colours abit more reflective here. Black and gold, are you surprised? You shouldn't be. It's my trademark colur combi that my friends have taken to associate me with.

I just really like the stretchy jersey material and the draping of the bottom half. It conceals the fats well and is really comfortable. It looks pretty dressed up but I felt it was minimal effort as well as to maintain the look throughout the day given different situations. Wayy minimal if you don't have to pile on make-up too! I also dressed it down for my night tutorial with Shoestopper #16, the Rubi sandals. The dress is good for daytime wear and nighttime wear.

It all boils down to the bag, accessories, makeup and of course, SHOES. That is really what most of my dresses are like. I hope to find as many uses for them as possible. While this dress may be a little too loud (due to the gold shoulders) for a conservative workplace, I feel that I should be able to pull this one off if I worked in a creative field or a younger modern workplace. But definitely NOT an interview dress.

So there you go! Hopefully your computer screen is still intact ;)

Shoestopper #16

Starting the month with a shoestopper post, I decided to blog about the pair I wore yesterday to kickstart my new year in university. Since it was still an unbearably hot day out given the heatwave Perth is still experiencing at the moment, I decided on a casual outfit, maxidress and sandals. Casual yet a little bit of effort. My most casual will be obviously a short dress and havaianas but I thought the first day of school deserved better.

Without further ado, I chose this pair of Rubi sandals to reign in the year for me.

I bought this pair in Rubi Harbourtown Nov/Dec 2010. I was too lazy to take off my shoes to try so I got Shiyu who has the same size feet to put her feet in to test the length and I just bought it. For only AUD10, I think it is well worth it. I usually wear a size 38 for Rubi shoes, but turns out size 37 fits me for sandals. Hmmmmm, maybe because it is not enclosed?

Anyway what do I like about this pair? Easy. It's the colour - gold being one of my favourite colours. Just goes well with almost all that I have in my wardrobe. As well as the understated studs which reallly toughen up the look a little. Not too girly so it does not narrow down the outfit choices. Not too hardcore so it does not narrow down the girly choices. It's just my personality, I guess. Not overly girly but I still like the pretty stuff.

It is a tad too flat for some, and too hard soled for some, which are both very very true except it does not affect me. But for me, I always choose looks over comfort. I also don't think it is uncomfortable. It is wearable and I can walk in it. Guess, I ain't too fussy about the soles. I initially thought it will be difficult to wear given the non-stretchy straps but I managed to squeeze my feet in without having to undo the buckles. I know how that can be so annoying and it sometimes even stops girls from buying a pair of shoes! Right, girlfriends?

Nevertheless, I love it because of its versatility. That's more than enough for me! So what did you choose to wear for your first day of school? Do you make an effort to dress up or is it an occasion you dread and wish you could turn up in your peejays? Have a great academic year everyone!

Shoestopper #15

It has been an unbearably hot day here in Perth and I had an appointment in the city I cannot wear a mini skirt to. So what do I do? Find myself a dress made out of the light silk/satin material of length long enough to be presentable yet short enough to be cool. I would say, it's mid-thigh.

Wearing heels will be silly too, because breaking out in sweat is never a good look. So I slipped on one of my many comfortable pairs of Rubi flats. I have retired quite a few pairs in the recent couple of years because they spoil so fast. But for 5 or 10bucks a pop, I really don't mind. It is just that I sometimes grow so attached to one particular coloured pair, it becomes harder to dump it...

That's the one I wore today when I first bought it. Doesnt look it in the photo but it is actually a very light pink. Looking so stiff and pristine and shiny. I like them when they have been slightly broken into and looking well-worn.

Now THAT is looking more than slightly well-worn when I took it. It is a different pair I had last year, which sis can also wear. It was being worn by the 3 ladies of the house. It looks similar but this one is actually more pink with that pretty girly insole design. I love it and I wish they had a pair with the floral prints on the outside!

I like both these pairs because of the colour and how it makes me feel so light-footed. A little like a ballet dancer! So pretty and feminine. Good to soften the jeans look, good for complementing a girly dress. Unfortunately, both pairs have been retired. The lighter pink only just today... =(

Some friends don't like Rubi shoes because they are either too flat or they wear out too fast. Well, I like that they are flat because I walk very fast in them and it is just so easy to slip into and still look quite presentable. If they are too flat, do what my aunt does and put insoles in them. In Singapore, you can buy the insoles for only $2 at Daiso. If you think they wear out too fast, buy the sale ones and then you feel less guilty! Besides, fashion changes fast.

Shoestopper #4

'Tis the season to be sparkly
Fa la la la la...

Ain't those shoes look just PERFECT for the festive season? I thought they were and bought them in Rubi Harbourtown. Never mind the fact that it was one size too small. My feet could fit in pretty well and it did not hurt at all for the ten seconds I tried them on.

Not just for the festive season, I thought it will go well with most of my dresses for nights out. So for just AUD5, I handed over my card to pay for it with the rest of the purchases (gifts for my godma and mum, not me!).

I wore them out for my last Saturday in Perth. Dinner at Positano's in Northbridge and Metros after with Anna, Li Jia, Geoff, Murdoch and Johann. Dinner at Positano's was alright, but we were all so so starved and impatient with the incredibly slow service.

It's from City Beach by Moolala or something like that. Ends in a deep V at the back of the dress. Loves it! Unfortunately, they were not my most comfortable outfit to date. The shoes hurt so much after 3/4 hours in them because my feet had no place to breathe. Ouch, I brought it back with me to Singapore in hope for finding a solution to this. Or else, it's up for grabs. Anyone want? It's a size 37. ;)
