M's Food Find #58

With heartache, comes an appetite for food. But all these eating out really burns a big hole in my pocket, even when we compare it to my shopping.

So on the one night where us girls want to go out and have fun still, where can you go to get your tummy filled and still have money left over for a good cake and coffee? It was a night where we could really stretch our dollar.

We ended up at Annalakshmi on the Swan for dinner before chilling at Greens & Co.

This pay-as-you-wish restaurant serves up simple vegetarian Indian fare at one of the prime locations in Perth. Yeah, it really is all you can eat and you can pay however much you wish. I mean be reasonable though. And I have heard of scrupulous diners who escaped out the back door. Please don't do that eh!

Located on the second level and would be gorgeous in the day dining out, overlooking the Swan River. But it was pretty dark that night as you can tell.

Quite a crowd on a Saturday night, a nice buzz and friendly chatter going round.

It is buffet style and have quite a bit of options, like half of Carvers buffet in the casino (which isnt that awesome either). However, we cannot complain. The basmati rice comes in two kinds, yellow and white. White is obviously the healthier choice here. The cute little tin bowl is for the soup. It is spicy and sour and not to everyone's liking. Take a sample and don't waste food.

That's the sitr-fried cabbage and chickpea curry and another vegetable curry. They also serve a small round kind of flatcake. Very bland on its own but goes well with the curries.


That is my plate. Alittle bit of everything. Potato curry is a hit with my friends and I. The stiry-fry is very healthy and crunchy and sweet in its natural taste. Overall, the standard of food is nothing to crow about but it is a good humbling experience for me. We paid about AUD5 per person... There is water and some kind of cordial. Coffee is also available.

Yes there is even dessert. Some watery milk thing with strong ginger taste. It is definitely NOT something we all liked. Five of us shared one little bowl. Well, we all took a teaspoon and gave the rest to Anna who was the only one who liked it.

Apparently the meal options are usually the same. I quite liked the concept and I would return once in a while I guess. You should give it a go, good for students on a budget ;)

Mayy has a shopping regret #5

We have surpassed 300 posts on this blog with Thumper last night! Whooops! But it also means I have been slacking hahaha.

Anyway, a shopping trip to the city with the girls last weekend netted an awesome buy which will soon be revealed. However, it also landed me with a dull heartache.

Would you just look at that pretty sleek thing? I mean thankfully (or not), I have girlfriends righteously guiding me down the non-sinister path and NOT handing over my card at the counter for it. On hindsight, it may have been fortunate as I would have to sell my entire wardrobe to balance out the guilt.

This pair of stilettos are from Hugo Boss women. The last two pairs, both of which in my size. It has gotta be a sign (I believed). They were HALF OFF, still at AUD350. But STILL. FIFTY PERCENT. Hugo Boss! A chic modern twist on the classic Mary Jane style.

Completely Random

Does anyone recall the cutest little bunny ever created? Thumper in the Bambi movie? Walt Disney drew him well and it is one cartoon character that is severely underappreciated. Everyone knows it cute and loves its mischievious friendly personality. Yet, hardly anyone remembers it enough to say hey, thats one of my favourite characters.

Well, I like the little tyke so much I took the photo below... A cute kids jumper of Thumper. Wished I had a kid so I have the reason to buy that!

And as if the cartoon one isn't cute enough, I recently came across a pet bunny which bears an uncanny resemblance to Thumper...

SQUEALS IN DELIGHT. This little furry ball of fur caused quite a stir on my facebook page when I put this photo up. Nawwwwwwwwwww...

Shoestopper #41

Yet another freezing day here in Perth but quite a day. Woke up early for Kungfu Panda 2 with Pat at 10am. Who watches movies this early?! Apparently, quite a few. Haha. Went to uni for a meeting before lunch with Pat and his friend. Haven't seen the duo for quite some time now. But it was nice in a way.

Anyway, point of this post is not what I did today, its on a rather quirky pair of shoes I owned. Past tense, because it had to be retired earlier this year...

Here it is! My first pair of cloth shoes. Absolutely quirky and nothing quite like what I usually have. Still, I don't know if you can see the appeal but I had to have it. I bought this pair of flower printed darlings in Bangkok's Platinum mall for only 100baht so that should be about SGD4.

It was the last pair in my size, I consider it a sign and when I tried them on, it reaffirms my belief that I had to have it. Thank goodness they were affordable ;)

Cloth shoes are just so so comfortable and its soles are actually made out of pretty solid material and while it is very flat, it is not uncomfortable. It is so pretty and dainty to put on. Haven't seen anything else quite like it ever since.

I was super upset to let it go but the sides were already coming loose and tearing so to speak. They sure don't last very long...

Well pretty shoes, I hope I meet your twin one day soon and I will buy me some more. Thank you for gracing my life. I miss you very much.

Mayy loves Cupcakes!

Cute cupcakes printed shorts from Cotton on Body, I didn't buy it. Managed to reason it out.

A chocolate mint cupcake for Jeremy's birthday this friday. Yes it is early but well. He said it was yummy and good. Coming from a guy, it is saying alot no? I bought it from Fremantle Markets for AUD2.50. Since it was closing time soon and not alot of choices left. Initially it was AUD 3.50 for one or AUD10 for a box of 4.

Here we go for topsy turvy photos... I took these photos before they all sold out since I was going to go have lunch first before coming back.

Not exactly cupcakes but the stall also sells cute decorated cookies.

When I took this photo early on, this cupcake was the only one left of its flavour. Wow, must be saying something no?

M's Food Find #57

I had a Harry Potter marathon weekend with the girls at their new place over the weekend. Suffice to say I ate my weight in potatoes, brownies, strudels and chocolates. And we are still not done. I suspect its the cold weather. Oh boy, alot of weightloss to do when summer rolls round! Better figure out a way to balance it all out. Because I haven't been gymming either. Pfffffft.

Alright, back to topic. This is probably nothing new to Perthites nor students studying around here. But there are a new batch coming in already and for those still NOT in the know, this blog post is a tribute to a cute quirky funky little cafe down in the chic suburb of Leederville.

Yes, no prizes for guessing that I am referring to Green's & Co. where they serve a HUGE range of cakes and amazing coffee.... I quote my friend Aik Leng here: "a slice of heaven, a life of sin"

That's their berry apple crumble which was pretty good with a nice crunch from the apples and buttery crumble. Not the best I have had but goes well with a good mocha.


I secretly have a mission for this cafe. To try every one of their cakes... So far, here's what I have tried.

Chocolate halva is something I would recommend you NOT to have. Unless you like watery half-baked cakes. Because that's what it is. The thought of it, the recollection is enough to make me want to yak.

Amazing coffee, their cappucino and latte are so fragrant. But the chai latte is abit too sweet for me even.

That's the chocolate orange tart which is good I suppose. You can certainly taste both flavours and I conclude a good end to a dinner. Definitely one for the jaffa lovers.

On a prior visit, I had the honeycomb brulee. It was very sweet and had a egg custardy filling. Not entirely awesome, rather just have honeycomb on its own...

Chocolate fudge cake, similar to the ones they have in San Churro's. As well as their hazelnut chocolate triangle cake. Good chocolatey cakes are never wrong choices but the cream is a wee bit too thick. Go for the traingle cake if you are not a cream fan.


I ordered this peanut caramel meringue cake on my last visit. A thick wedge of cream there is quite sickening but the nutty base and the nutella-ish topping are both super yummy. Just wished they had better proportions of the different parts.



I also tried the Chocolate Marshmellow cake on my very first visit to this place. This is my TOP choice out of everything (without a dot) so far. I loved the chewy sweet gooey marshmellow filling mixed with the moist chocolate cake. Yumyumyum. Can't wait till I finish all the other flavours and finally can go back to ordering that... Yes, when I make up my mind about something, I generally want to complete it.

Choco berry pavlova was a good choice for those who love sweet sticky treats. I had the banana pavlova on a prior visit as well. As I am extremely partial to bananas, I would choose that over the choc berry one. However, I must acknowledge it is not for everyone and quite filling. Stick to choc berry for those who want a good end to their dinner and not a big fan of bananas.

You can borrow the various connect 4 sets to play with. Bring your own games if you wish. Play pool or pac man on their vintage machines.

The place is lighted up with paper laterns all over the ceilings and walls plastered with every kind of concert posters with the odd television screens protruding out. It is just filled with quirky things and happy chatters from the patrons. It can get quite crowded and the sofas get filled very quickly. Couples hang out, friends laugh together, families sit together.

Well well well, it dropped to less than 0 degrees last night here. And I only wore a top and jeans today. Oops. Anyway, here's another NON-winter outfit. Unless I bundle up with three layers of cardigans and a big furry jacket. Nevertheless, here it is...

A very comfortable piece of clothing I have ever owned. The blue flower printed maxidress from Temt didn't cost me alot. I remember wearing it often to classes and study days because I could hide/fold/stretch my feet under the tent of a skirt. And it was summerdays where you needed a light flowy material that breathes. No regrets there but have decided to share my joy with my cousin who admittedly looks better in it than I do!

Shoestopper #40

Only the 40th pair of shoes posted? I'm frankly, a little shocked at myself here... Anyway, to celebrate the post, I have decided to blog about the very first pair of Betts stilettos
I purchased at full price.

I fell in love with it the first time I set eyes on it but didn't buy it because I could not justify the pricetag at that point in time. Nevertheless, I was trying it on the second or third time at my first time in Garden City 3 years ago when I got that fateful phonecall. It was amazing news and I was in shock and kinda really happy so I told Mummy I was going to get the pair as a reward for all the hard work. I love having proper reasons. At times, "I want it" just ain't gonna cut it y'know.

Look at that shiny black patent leather and steady stiletto heels. The insoles are delightfully cushiony and the peeptoe fronts hardly give me blisters. While my only grouse is that the shoe front is squarey rather than pointed, I love the whole look of it. Very corporate sexy and Rihanna-esque, in my opinion. I wore it to my college diploma graduation as a seemingly fitting gesture.

And when I say steady, I do mean steady. I can run in these, faster than friends in flats. Maybe they just aren't feeling that in the rush... Oh wells. Point is, this pair is a quality pair of shoes and so well worth the money I paid for it.

Mayy's Closet #60

60! The sixtieth item or outfit in my closet. Wow, and there's so many more to go. Oh dear... Anyway, closet cleaning out is still underway and every other day I come up with something that has gotta go, for sale sign goes up or just donate to the salvation army. Got to be ruthless sometimes when it comes to these things...

Anyway, here's a new buy that definitely won't be going anywhere else anytime soon.

A blue/white striped oxford shirt/blouse from Cotton On, finally on sale at AUD10. Thank goodness for patience and a good friend who said NO. I almost bought it at full price the other day. That's one way of wearing it, especially for summer with shorts or denim skirts.

How it looks like, longer than oxford shirts and more casual and soft. Not long enough for leggings unfortunately...

And tucked into jeans for a casual day. If work, just tuck it into pants or highwaisted skirt! Would be so good I reckon. Casually rolled up sleeves instead of leaving them long. But at least there is the option for a more formal look...

M's Food Find #56

I have been eating so much since the cold weather set in. And not much exercise because I just want to focus on some things first. Besides, my bangs are troublesome so I have to travel back and forth alot just to shower at home and get ready.

Moving on, here's a new sushi place in the city called Iku Sushi. Apparently Iku means to go in Japanese. And the little cafe here is plastered with funky colours and backgrounds and quirky little things...Let the photos speak for themselves.


You can grab fast sushi available in the cold fridges or order hot meals where the chef will prepare in the kitchen. It is located behind Perth Underground train station, or the new mall which houses Uggys and Forever New. Next door to Nando's with a nice outdoor seating at the back.

However, it was cold dark and rainy the night I was there unfortunately.



I really liked this cute tiny pinic bench on each table which stocks all the essentials!

I ordered the Panko Onion Rings which really is just onion rings with a simple side salad and mayo. This was about AUD5.

Very environmentally friendly with the takeaway trays specially designed. Anyway, I also ordered the chicken cheeseburger sushi rolls. You read that right! It comes in a tray of 4 or 6. Thankfully I ordered 4 because they fill you up realy quick! The rolls are packed tight with sushi rice. The rolls are lightly crumbed and fried to a good standard. Something different but not the healthiest sushi around for sure. However, the chicken pieces were too little to really taste and the rice and chicken ratio just wasn't good in my opinion. I really liked the melted cheddar cheese though! Gooey goodness =) Costs you about AUD5.50 for four and AUD7.50 for six.

Li Jia ordered the bacon cheeseburger sushi rolls. Similar, just bacon instead of chicken. I had a roll of this and have a sneaking suspicion that there's beef also here. OOPS. Its not bad I would say, and you can try their new wasabi mayo with it. However, I would say just stick to the sushi on its own and its good enough.

Thinking back, it will be nice to have a small side salad with this one. Think about it Iku Sushi ;)

Anna ordered the medium sized teriyaki fish bento. Comes with side salad and spring rolls. I had a small piece and it was pretty good. Sweet sauce and the fish was soft and melty. Food comes PIPING HOT so thats a plus for us girls all cold from the wind outside.

Nurun ordered the miso soup, warms you right up but nothing fantastic. More tofu bits would be nice!

That's more chicken cheeseburgers for you with their original mayo.

Shiyu also ordered the katsu curry bento set. This one is the large size. Comes with sushi rolls and spring rolls and pasta salad. Yumyum, but I would split this. I probably can finish this if I was super hungry. Just right for the boys...

The two girls also ordered a chicken karaage popcorn side. Which is really just karaage chicken balls. Super yummy. I liked this one. Addictive and pretty big pieces. Not small like popcorn. I like the substantial bite to it!

So would I return if I was down in the city? I definitely would but not often. I will not be craving it I guess and going out of my way to head down. But with the creative dishes and presentation, its worth a visit!
