Mayy's Closet #89

As I go about my life, my head is filled with the potential clothing line I have created since I was a kid and never truly found shops that could satisfy me entirely, fashion wise. Affordablilty is always an issue. And quality. I just can never truly find these. But when I do, I build them into my bulging closet.

Today, I blog about my uniform. For plane rides, and all kinds of travel modes, normal days, bored days, and just overall laziness.

This electric blue oversized top is from Supre. I sometimes wear it as a dress during summer because thankfully, I am short enough as it is. Which explains my fascination with heels.

I love the oversized look and throwing on a pair of leggings for comfort. Accessories and makeup go a long way to make this outfit go from casual to dressy. I usually pile bangles (assorted and never matching) on my arms, and simple stud earrings with a statement necklace. Otherwise, it is statement earrings and simple necklace chains.

Since leggings are only good in black mostly, the makeup veers towards heavy eyeliner and darker eyeshadow shades. Perhaps I am never the pink toned kinda girl?

Honestly, I prefer wearing leggings over my ankles so they appear longer instead of stopping short over the shoes. Ahh well, the platform wedges from Wittner's are already winning and attention-drawing all on its own. So the nude colour works well for its design and for spring and summer.

Mayy's Closet #83

Good Monday evening everyone! Well, I suppose it is night time already and the whole being back in SG thing is starting to sink in with my later sleeptime. Anyhow, I have had quite a good week being back, meeting friends and cousins and having good food. A well-deserved break albeit some good thinking in to do.

Here's a short closet post for you ladies.

What a pretty print and I couldnt have NOT bought it when I saw it in Taipei Shihlin.

Really didnt think to pair it this way when I first bought it but this is my first time wearing it. I saw that it was long enough to cover and wear leggings with. Since it was such a gorgeous day out that day in Perth, I threw on the blue chiffon top to layer it.

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

I just felt the chiffon top hides some imperfections and bring out the prints. My leggings had very subtle glitter which cant be seen here in the photos. I love those leggings! Any glitter and shine ;)

What shoes would you wear this with?

Mayy's Closet #76

Now when you see this outfit, you may think it looks familiar. I agree I do have something similar (especially colour-wise)in my closet, but why did I get it?! (besides the fact that I am such a hoarder).

Anyway, I got it because the first one in my closet is from Zara and I do love it to bits. Besides that, I wanted something comfortable and versatile from autumn to winter to spring!

The khaki green cowlneck knit dress is from Supre. While it is not made from the best material around, I wear it quite often because its quite comfy and the easiest thing on lazy days. With leggings, stockings, or on its own. With flats, booties, boots, stilettos. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Add a turtleneck beneath to keep warm, a scarf, a long necklace, a fedora hat, a slingbag, a holdall, a backpack...
Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

I like it so much I went and got a second one, in black! Which I really like. I do have alot of blacks in my closet... Not only is it a cowl neckline, I can stretch the neckline further and have it as a drop-shoulder dress!

Mayy's Closet #57

Winter is SUCH a lazy season. Perhaps it is also because I am on vacation mood. I just so need a break. Which is what I am giving myself this weekend. No parties, no dressing up. Just leggings and oversized sweaters and hoodies. If I could leave the house in bathrobe, I would. Sitting on my ass all day in front of the telly in my tubchair, ok LOSER. Whatever. So 'tis the season where no matter how many layers you wear, you still feel cold. So sometimes, I settle for just one since it makes no difference.

And here's one of my favourite winter outfits: an olive green drop-shoulder long knitted sweater from Zara and leggings.

I bought this (four/five) years ago before I even knew I would one day actually be faced with living in a country with four seasons. I bought it in Zara Macau or Hong Kong (I can't remember if it is even in anyone of the named countries) and brought it with me to Japan too. It is so comfortable and warm and chic in my opinion. It is timeless and and I can dress it however I want to. Though usually it is just with leggings and black boots and gold accessories.

It is good for a day out or even a night out. It is a little bodycon-like so I have to push myself to not overeat and have a tummy showing. Wouldn't be a good look here! There are always that few dresses or clothes items you will never give up. This is definitely one of them for me. I wouldn't know what to do if I one day have to retire it. I don't think I will though. It will just be reduced to home-wear at most. I am so glad I stuck to my guns and told my mother I wanted it no matter what. It didn't come cheap, that much I remember but thank god for Mum and Dad's more generous spirits when we go on holidays. There are just some things worth fighting for.

Mayy's Closet #54

Today has been so blustery and cloudy that I felt sort of down. And it is REALLY cold. Brrrrr. Before I go on to talk about winter days where the sun shines so deceivingly bright but the wind is near unbearable, I had one of my worst nightmares come true today. I locked myself out of my room in my haste to rush out and left my house keys AND car keys in it. AND there was no one home, no spare keys. Oh my god, I am a complete space case. I had managed to make a last minute slot to get something done in the city and just sort ot panicked and wanted to go. Can't believe it. My landlady is just so nice and she came home from wherever she was to open the door for me. And I managed to make my appointments and get my stuff sorted. Phew. It is when you have so much stuff on your mind that you do not think straight and clear.

On days like these when the wind sends chills down your spine and you can feel it in your bones, I find scarves totally helpful. However, being covered every inch of your arms and legs may sometimes still result in you NOT feeling warm.

Here is one classic example of those bright sunny winter days...Then I stepped out of the house to find myself shivering and at the point of no return but to spend the day sort of cold.

My black Roxy embellished long sleeve shirt is from Shanghai, China. Yeah, even in China I had to get a Roxy top. I had a slight obsession then ok. HAHA. White denim skirt and leggings and my fur-trimmed boots. The white scarf, I learnt on that day, was NOT enough to keep me warm. Only those boots managed to keep some part of my body warm. I definitely should have worn another jacket. Maybe I did, but it is two years ago where I actually have time to do my hair in the morning.

Anyway, winter to me is perfect for putting those denim skirts to dual good use. People usually just wear them in summer, but hey! with leggings or stockings... Or without...

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com
So this particular outfit did give my knees a really cold time BUT I just finished watching Laguna Beach and Kristen Cavallari wore a similar outfit in the first episode or second. A black turtleneck with denim skirt and Uggs. Granted, I am not wearing Uggs here but whatever. Looking back, I really don't know how I wore that in season and not become a snowman.

Mayy's Closet #51

More on boyfriend shirts after my emerald green one in Closet #49. It is also from Supre a couple of years back. I guess when Supre comes out with a certain style, it does it in a wide range of designs and colours and materials.

This one is slightly more classic. White base with white vertical stripes. It just breaks the white monotony even if it is same colour stripes. The fit at XS is better but I also had another at S (white base with black vertical stripes) before I gave it to my cousin who I know will appreciate as much as I do. After all, I do not need to be hoarding so much clothes right?

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com
With black leggings and boots and waistbelt, it really is smart casual for a slightly more important day in school. Or with shorts in summer, or tuck it in with a high waisted skirt for a supe sexy corporate look.

The material here is cotton but slightly stretchy and thick. While the white is somewhat translucent, it is not a result of poor quality. It merely enhances the look somehow. I also think this is one of the more perfect airplane friendly outfits because you can dress it up with different kind of shoes for different looks and also give you maximum comfort and flexibility to move around in.

Mayy's Closet #49

Alright, so I have been hooked/addicted to Glee, starting right from the beginning. Actually I think it is going to start soon on Channel ten here at 8.30pm. ANYWAY, I thought I should interject some sort of life onto this blog...

One of my first lunch trips down to the city for Tony Roma's with Anna...I wore this emerald green silk boyfriend shirt from Supre.

With black leggings and belted it. Pretty superstar with my Myers sunnies. I love this top so much I brought it back to Singapore and left it to hang out with other favourite clothes. I wore it to work once on Christmas eve with a high waisted skirt. Very chic.

At the train station and a totally posed photo. I did my hair up that day because I was feeling it. I hardly ever do that now though... lost the motivation?

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

But this one is so not posed, candid shot. But I thought it was really funny. I find boyfriend shirts very flattering and kinda sexy. They are more cut for feminine curves and long enough to wear leggings with if you don't want to tuck it into pants or skirts. They are so smart casual and if done right, corporate ready for the workplace. It really is a winwin for all occasions in your life.

This satin material is lightweight and comfortable under the summer heat. What more can you ask for? Do you have any boyfriend shirts or tailored shirts you literally stole from your dad's or husband's or boyfriend's closet?

Mayy's Closet #48

A closet post before I bombard you with more food! This post's main focus is the bright coloured leggings I got from Cotton On. The pink and blue.

Still fairly new in Perth. The skirt with ruffled hem has since been gifted to my ex-housemate because she really liked it. The Roxy layered racerback is still with me but since it was too cold, I added a black turtleneck.

A really relaxed day to uni because it was crunch time I think. Paired with the Gorgio Armani oversized sweater and my classic adidas bag and sneakers.

The pink one with denim shorts and a simple black long sleeve top from Cotton On Body. See, some of their items can be worn out!

With a black tunic minidress from Bugis, layered with a black turtleneck again.

Or wear with flats instead of boots for a spring day.

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

And with my own-designed oversized hoodie sweater from my JC class and fur-trimmed boots. Yes, very colour coordinated the outfits here. Too Japanese/Asian/loud on hindsight BUT WHATEVS!

Mayy's Closet #47

Hey everyone, how was your Wednesday, mid-week? Gloomy over here and I spent my whole day in front of the telly watching Laguna Beach Season 1. SO motivated eh? Not. Anyway, time for some clothes posting...I will raid my closet on Friday or over the weekend just to see what I don't need no more.

However, the focus of this post will definitely be kept with me forever if I have my way. It is officially Winter here in Perth as well, so let's post more warm outfits eh?

You probably can't see it as clear here but the focus is the black oversized knitted sweater with a cowl neckline from Supre. I got it way back during my first winter here and loved it ever since. This is shot in a quiet part of uni. I always feel quite blessed that I study in such a vast and beautiful campus. Anyway, yes the sweater. It is long enough to wear leggings with and warm enough to wear it on its own or just a tanktop in it. Here, I wore a tanktop in the same shade as my electic blue leggings from Cotton On. Yes, I do realised I quite like the black eyeliner and rock look. Just not too extreme.

Less rock chick, injected a bit more sweet here with the grey beret from Dotti and pink checkered/tartan scarf from Cotton On Body. If it is warmer, lose the boots and wear some pointed flats. Black, blue, sequins, this look is easy to mix and match!

I would say this is my first time wearing the sweater. With white denim shorts and bright blue leggings from Cotton On. Yes, a look I admit is not much for Australia, more Asian/Jap/Taiwan/HK. You can flatten the cowl neckline and wear it more like an off-shoulder.

If it is not yet winter, perhaps autumn or nearing spring, pair it with a short denim skirt and thigh-high/knee length boots.

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com
Or a recent photo of my outfit, with grey skinny jeans and white heels and just wearing the sweater as it is. No layers of tank tops. Gotta wear the cowl neckline strategically though.

It is just a really simple and chic piece that I can wear in so many ways and dress to so many themes. Something for long term. Don't we all love that?

Mayy's Closet #44

Oh happiness, I have submitted all assignments as of Saturday. Had a dinner which I will blog about shortly and then went out with my girlfriends. Unfortunately, it was not the best night out but whatevs, just waiting on the two girls to finish their exams before we can actually start chilling.

Anyway, I am BORED out of my brains so far. Let's blog about something bright and funky then. Just to chase the blues and dreary gloomy mood which mirrored the weather.

Obviously the pink leggings popped here.

Rightey-o, I took this like a couple years back. I still have those clothes don't get me wrong but well, I guess it belonged more in Japan or Taiwan or Hong Kong, this look. The pink leggings are from Cotton On, a Harbourtown buy at AUD10 or 5. White denim shorts which I am certain I blogged about before. The shirt that reads: Daddy's Little Expensive Girl, was a bday gift from sis. I have one in silver (above) and one in gold which I am keeping in Singapore. I love it, the words are too cute. The long cardigan is actually from Cotton On Men's but really I don't care because it was perfect for what I was looking for. Another Harbourtown buy at AUD10. A steal! And the colourful Roxy trucker cap which now belongs to sis.

And the leggings and cardigan again, paired with a basic v-neck white tee with pink and blue words from Cotton On Men's again at AUD2. Yes, you read right, 2 bucks. After all, mens tee are big enough to cover the front and back of the lower half of the body. I mean if you wear leggings, camel toes are just NOT attractive and no one wants to see saggy bottoms. It is just like a RULE to not wear leggings as pants but somehow, some girls are not heeding this advice. Oh wells, to each her own.

A close up of the pink...
A recent outfit with the leggings. Just a very chill day, an off day (Thursdays this sem). I still had to go down to uni so I thought, what the heck. Dad's GA sweater which is now mine *cue evil laughter* And my SF Men's bag. Okay, so I got a slight obsession with Men's stuff but some are really NICE and I like to think I can pull it off. THINK.

And then, I met Shiyu for late night shopping and tried this pretty things on...

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com
Shiyu also tried it on. Pretty little things no?! YES! We didnt get it because it costs AUD139 and is not THAT comfortable. But they look great and apparently sold out in Carousel a week later because well, we cannot find it anymore. For those of you who wants these, best you go find the shops in the city or something! Be quick!

Mayy's Closet #42

Following on from a favourite tee in Prints Seven, I had brought it with me to Perth in the beginning. It is still with me now but I wear it less often. However, here's an outfit for a slightly warmer spring day.

Paired with my white denim shorts and leggings, it was perfect with my transparent jelly flats from Shoestopper #26 and my pink Ripcurl straw bag which has since gone to bag heaven. It is a simple look for a relaxed day, in preparation for summer.

I know how some fasionistas loathe the shorts-leggings combination but I find it appropriate for the unpredictable Spring weather. However, it is just wrong to do the combination in winter. For me, at least. Because well, it just means you can't get over Summer. Just give it up already. Don the jeans and leggings and boots. Leave the shorts at home! But who am I to judge? ;)

Mayy's Closet #20

Still 'inspired' from the weather and a day of doing absolutely nothing academically inclined, here's a closet post on an outfit I wore a couple of years back when it was rainy and cold. It was one of those spontaneous weekend day out with Anna, this one to Freo for fish and chips & Baskin Robbins.

Yes, I brought that umbrella out with me. I love it and it's practical. Oh, and it's pretty. Now for the clothes. It's my favourite Zara sweater top. I have it in four or five different colours. And I am NOT stopping. This green one is my first of such tops so it holds more meaning to me. It goes well with EVERYTHING and especially the Puma bag I am toting in this photo. The Puma bag was a birthday gift from the 0906 boys back in teejay days. I like its functionality and shape. It holds alot more than it looks. I paired it with leggings and denim shorts. And this is no normal leggings, they are really thick ones from Best & Less kids section. I read somewhere in a magazine on how denim shorts should be left for summer. I think Katie Holmes was wearing this combi. Well, I think it is all about layering it up and how you pull it off. I am not saying I pulled it off here but hey, it sure makes use of the summer wardrobe. My Jay Jays ankle boots is also sort of my rain boots so it comes as part of the deal back then when it rains. I accessorized with a big red faux crystal heart necklace I got from one of my Bangkok trips.

Anyhow, that was comfortable for a day out and is not difficult to pull together. What do you think, denim shorts with leggings yay or nay?

Mayy's Closet #19

I am so stoked for the cooler weather that is coming up in the later part of this week. So I shall blog about a dress I really liked for such air-cony seasons. It is from Best and Less kids section, and I bought both the pink and yellow. However, I think I gave the yellow one away as a gift and kept the pink for myself. I just wore a black long sleeve top and leggings as the base so the pink dress pops. I really liked the scarf from Cotton On. It gives the look a less girly feel, more edge.

Instead of jelly flats, put on a pair of ivory ankle boots from Jay Jays. A silver-striped black turtleneck to give it a bit of colour. With a ivory cream and gold threads beret (from Ripcurl, I think) which I got from a magazine (Dolly/Girlfriend) again.

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

Or with a plain black turtleneck top without any other accessories. I liked the very slight folds/tiers at the hem of the dress. I have also tried wearing it as a dress on its own on very hot summer days but it is really a tad too short so I don't wear it as often during summer. I have since donated/given this dress away because well, I must make space for the new stuff. Just like today, I got two new dresses and a blazer from Ally. I miss shopping. Need more time at Carousel, today was just a really short pass through to get my Medicare card done.

Mayy's Closet #17

In celebration of the successful delivery of my 40 minute presentation today, let's do a 'What the heck was I thinking' closet post. Two years ago, I let myself out into the world looking like this...

I think that MIGHT have been okay if I was in Taiwan or Japan. But I was in Perth, wearing that colourful outfit: Skulls beanie from Zhu Hai, mauve coloured fur trim jacket from Mango, hearts printed top from Best and Less kids section, black skirt which I had for a really long time, pink leggings from Cotton On and the most comfortable white flats from Bangkok (which I am very sad that it could not last me forever).

I supposed it was a very comfortable outfit and kept me warm in the spring/winter weather. I probably thought the 'kiddier' I looked, the more studious I would be. It probably is true. So does that mean that if you dress well, you don't get good grades? Well the hypothesis remains unjustified with no proper data to support that claim. Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

There's the Best and Less long sleeve printed top again, paired wth my Surfbabe khaki asymmetrical skirt and black leggings. Now where did this top go again?

Mayy's Closet #14

It is Friday, sings Rebecca Black. Oh my god, she is annoying but apparently my facebook notifications are full of friends doing the gotta gotta thing on their statuses, photo albums...even tweeting. Gosh. So my point is, how's your friday going? As you can tell, I am having a night in with my laptop. I have had a most unproductive day but spent it well on the social side of things. Here's a closet post, no not on what I wore today but well yeah. Just felt like it and coz I gotta coz it's Friday, Friday, Friday. HAH.

I bought this yellow dress from Best & Less kids section as I felt it was really reflective of spring and I wore it out to watch the Red Bull Air Race in the city one weekend with Anna a couple of years back. Paired it with leggings coz well, it was still abit chilly and the dress is a bit sheer. Looking back at it now, I do like the frills and the dress quite abit but unfortunately I have passed it on to someone else. Only ever wore it that one time. I guess I was being insecure about how fat I looked in it. I liked it hanging on the hanger but it just never translated to whenever I put it on. So I thought let's not waste a perfectly pretty dress.

Oh wells, lucky I have this photo to remember it by. Do you have any outfits that remind you of one specific occasion? I do, I have quite a few since some of them I only wore once so far and the times I wear them are always memorable in one way or the other...

Today, Mayy...

Decision has been made to name my records of random everyday happenings: Today, Mayy...

Today, Mayy went out for lunch with Anna. Anna just got back to Perth last night from her 10 days trip to Melbourne and Sydney. We were to meet at Wong's at Bentley Centre for some good Malaysian/Singaporean fare. Sadly, we found the restaurant to be closed. We wandered around and tried to find an alternative. I suggested Victoria Park since it was just down the road, Anna suggested Ten Ten since I really want some Chinese food.

The place was really packed when we entered the restaurant. And the lady woman at the counter just had this really can't-be-bothered facial expression and sort of waved us away. I mean, don't you want more business?! Anna pointed out a free table at the moment and Woman said if there's a free table, just go. I'm starting to get really annoyed. If it was up to me, I would have walked out of there in a split second. The waitresses were also unhelpful and unfriendly. I quite liked the noisy buzz from the crowd in the place, but the food was not that fantastic. The last straw came when we went up to pay at the counter. Woman still had a really pissed off expression and as I was walking out of the door, I said I am NEVER returning there ever again. I am going to stick to that and spread the word. I guess I am like my daddy, I will not stand for lousy service and arrogant owners. I rather just leave and find someplace else. Don't these people know they are in a very competitive service industry? VicPark's a stretch of restaurants and food joints! Sheesh.

After lunch, we got baby cones at Baskin Robbins. I love the flavour I got today: Everyone's favourite Candy Bar. awwwwww, it was really sweet and had a hint of nuts. To me, it felt like I was having mars bar, snickers and all the chocbars in a melting icecream. yums! I forgot to take any photos of today's lunch and dessert. However, I will share with you a photo of the cutest cake I saw in BR.

On the fashion front, Anna wore one of her usual sleeveless tees. I know her purple one's from Victoria's Secrets, maybe today's red one too? Anyway, she usually pairs them with leggings. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. I have told her UMPTEEN times, that is a major faux pas unless you are really tiny and have no butt. But she is a beautiful curvy tall girl. Not going to work girlfriend! Not nice in front too, if you all know what I mean. So if you want to wear shirts that ends above your butt, front and back, wear pants ok? or pull on a skirt if u insist on leggings. Or even shorts. HOWEVER, today girlfriend wore a pair of lightweight white harem pants she just got from Supre in Melb. It really brightens her up and it sure looked better! So hopefully girlfriend will see the plus points in wearing pants with shirts and ALL the nay points in shirt/leggings combo.

So girls, NO. Cover those camel toes and butts. Unless you kicked ass everyday in the gym and have a killer butt. In which case, I shut my mouth. What have you all been doing this dreary Sunday? I do want to know if you went on some adventure ;)

Till the butter flies, Mayy xo
