mayyn meal - Matilda Bay Restaurant

When the family came to visit for a short period between Christmas and New Year's, we spent our dinners out at fancier restaurants to celebrate. We like good food! Anyway, I finally got to try out Matilda Bay Restaurant this time round so yay!

Great location as we all know it...

The interior is not what I expected but I like it.

Very busy so make sure you book in advance... Service was still pretty good despite the crowd.

Prawns to start were nicely seasoned.

Crispy squid was delicious.

Oysters 3-ways. I am no oysters fan but these were fresh and the flavours were uniquely good.

Very good crispy pork belly. I would return just for that.

Duck was the perfect portion for a lady and perfectly pink.

Lamb cutlets were also of a good standard and cooked medium-rare.

Lemon meringue pie was average.

Overall, we loved our food and felt the price was justifiable. Dessert is a letdown with not much selection either. Given how it is the end to any meal, perhaps they should step it up?

mayyn meal - Summer Lunch Special at Silks in Crown Perth

Nearly winter now, and you can see how much backlog I constantly run myself into. Anyway, craving for some good Chinese food again. Silks is definitely pricey but serves up quality fare that I feel is pretty justifiable with their service and ambience as well.

This is my second time at Silks and first time trying out their special lunch menu.

Loving this set of teapot and cup

Got seated in the booth all by myself! I always like to go to Silks for lunch by myself. Totally decadent and spoilt for some quality me time.

The patagonian toothfish yam ball is a signature which I've had before and I don't mind it. Spring Roll is average but really? Come on Silks, serving spring roll at your restaurant?!

But that last item is a big redeeming quality. The amazing egg custard was perfection and the whole thing is heavenly.

The steamed dimsum selection consists of the usual suspects but pimped up Silks-style.

The roasted pork belly is delicious with the right crunchy pork crackling and ratio of fat and meat. Charsiew was okay, the noodles were yummy.

By now, I was satisfied in my tummy. Could have had more but it was just right. None of the overeating dimsum nonsense you get when you order it ala-carte.

Dessert...

Their mango pudding is divine.

Petit fours to end the meal. $49.50 may seem steep at first but it was fine dining.

mayyn meal - Raw Food Tapas Fiesta by Chris/Talesofakitchen

www.talesofakitchen.com
www.rawbychris.com

Both websites are by a beautiful lady Chris who makes the most beautiful and healthiest things around. Raw food is definitely a very intriguing idea and to be able to try them out for myself, I was instantly hooked.

Lucky enough to score myself a seat at her very first event held at Halo Espresso, to coincide with the Angelo Street Festival this year.

What beautiful colours!

These things are raw, I was blown away even if I am not the biggest fan of the 'bread'. Abit too dry on its own for me.

There were about 3 guys at this long table event. All 3 LOVED the marinated mushrooms. I cannot believe they are raw! What a brilliant flavour combination.

Cauliflower was really good for me with the cheese but overall I did think it was alittle too dry.

Loving the freshness of these wraps.

I was so in love with the cashew pate found in them!

Sundried tomato balls, and basil pesto ones. Oh my god. I could have kept eating if I wasn't already feeling so full. Chris certainly know how to feed a crowd.

These little cups are also amazing with cauliflower rice and fresh herby vegs.

Or even 'cheese'! So creamy. By the end of this, I was thinking that this lady is a genius. And she is so humble and shy and nervous. Her food was a hit though so much so that I would keep returning to her events after. (More photos of those to come!)

I love the hint of lavender in these 'truffles'.

Salted caramel anybody?

Last but not least, my favourite and I managed to have 2. White chocolate coconut mousse with her amazing blueberry rose superfood jam.

I ordered her Raw Basket soon after which came packed with some amazing goodies. Her treats can be found at various cafes all around Perth and her events are always getting sold out so quick. Word of mouth, instagram and good quality food will always triumph.

I wished healthy food in Perth wouldn't cost so much or that one day, I will be able to achieve a good standard of preparing and cooking these healthy foods for my family and kids. I changed my life this year, and I don't think I want to ever go back to how I was. I still love good food, I still indulge. But I can see the changes Ive made sticking with me and me actually putting effort to having this lifestyle stay for good. The inspiration out there is amazing and all the beautiful recipes and instagram accounts really motivates me!

Can't wait for Chris' third event this Saturday! :)

mayyn meal - Pinchos in Leederville

It was past 8pm and I got a wee bit hungry. It is the perfect time to visit Pinchos as the chances of a queue is lower and tapas are perfect to just keep the belly happy.

Been wanting to visit Pinchos in Leedy, the new kid on the block. But the last time I went after calling them to confirm it will be opened, they were closed for a media event.

It is a order what you want on the paper menu and take it to the counter to pay for it system. Behind the counter, the fridge holds karafs of housemade Sangria. I was so tempted!!!

The little alcove at the back is great for a big group I reckon, I can see myself holding a little private function out back but I am not sure if Pinchos do that!

Ordered 2 bite-sized Pintxoes for about $1 or $2 each. The chorizo was not bad but the Jamon with blue cheese was better!

Smoked almonds were alright but really just something quick to munch on while waiting for the rest of the food.

Braised lamb was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The lamb meat was tender and flavourful. The yogurt and beans were good accompaniments but the amount of food they had to cramp into that small little dish, well I rather have a bit more meat now won't we?

Roasted pork belly was really good... perfect if I had a beer. But may be a little too much fats than some people would like. I am okay with it though!

The paella cake was the spanish version of an arancini ball!

Love the green sauce that matched with the saffron manchego paella cake. One of the favourites of the night.

(reviews on @mayybites too)

It was a very light dinner that costed about $28. While the menu seemed cheap at first sight, a hungry person will easily rack up quite a bill by the end. So the next time I return, it will be just like that evening. Wanting a wee bit of food to satisfy a relatively greedy but not so hungry tummy!
