M's Food Find #30

Last one for the day before I retire for the night! A new food place we tried out tonight for dinner. We always seem to have to rack our brains when we want to go out in Perth. Nothing new really and if new, it hardly impresses us... Nevertheless, read on for our The Moon adventure in Northbridge (next to Dominos)!

I thought this was just for show, but you can actually sit right in the front window for a drink and chat with your friends!

It is quite dark in this picture but this was out back in the restaurant and filled with kitschy stuff and mismatched antiques.

A quirky sort of hangout, something different in Perth.

That's their food menu with quite abit of choices as it is double-paged. I saw quite a few people ordering finger food to go with their drinks. No one really ordered dinner food like we did...

That is the Creamy Prawn Fettucine! I am happy to report the prawns were fresh but the fettucine and cream sauce are nothing to rave about.

A pretty different sort of pasta: Blue, Pumpkin and Thyme Fettucine. We didn't know it was going to be a cream-based one but it is. The pumpkin gave this dish a sweetness and the I can really taste the thyme. An odd combination which should be cooked well in the right circumstances. However, the chef is probably having his off day or something.

The Large Calamari came in mainly shoestring fries and salad. A pathetic amount of fried calamari but SO DELICIOUS. You just wish they were more generous here. I mean, shoestring fries were really good with their mayo sauce and the salad was fresh and the salad dressing was so so good too. BUT when I order calamari, I expect CALAMARI not fries and salad...

And of course, how can we NOT have dessert? We ordered the chocolate pizza which came with walnuts as well. It looked good with a thin crust when it came. Unfortunately, it stopped short. The crust was not crispy and quite tough to chew on. The walnuts and chocolate had a really good aroma going on but the pizza base really is a letdown.

Four of us paid $71.50 for it and I suppose that is quite reasonable. We didn't even manage to finish the pasta which we had to do a takeaway. The restaurant had quite good service. It also runs on a tab basis so be sure to have a credit card or driver's licence for them. Overall, it is not an experience I would be rushing to go back for.

We ended the night a little disappointed because we didn't know where else we could go. That's our problem always, plan for dinner then we end up going home if we have no game plan after because there is just no place else to head to and someone is bound to leave their identification at home... But hey, I guess I get to blog for you eh? Hope you are having a good night!

Mayy's Closet #9

I just came back from dinner out with Shiyu, Nurun and Li Jia. We didn't have the best food and alot of the hilarious conversations we had were in the car going to and fro! Nevertheless, it is always nice to head out with a few girlfriends and be able to dress up for it... So before I blog about the food, here's a closet post for outfit of the night!

I was looking through my wardrobe and it took me quite a while to decide what to wear. I was being insanely picky of course and I was leaning towards wearing something new. Hence I settled for this maxidress and broke my own stereotype that this is a day dress!

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com
I bought this dress last year at a closing down sale for Suite Boutique in Harbourtown (it has since been replaced by ChicaBooti). Everything in the shop was AUD10! I couldn't really believe it but when I asked and it was, I had to get it. I could wear flats with it and not sweep the floor. But for dinner tonight, I decided on wedges. The material was light and comfortable. I really liked the wood beadings. Pile on a heap of bangles and I am ready to go.

Because it is such a cold windy night out and I only wore it for less than 3 hours, I can wear it again tomorrow during the day and it will be fine! There we go, I found another day to night dresses! Just bring a change of shoes and accessories. A bigger shopper tote in the day with maybe a cardigan, a small clutch for the night and slap on some glitter eyeshadow and you are ready for your dinner date! I wore my hair down here but I can totally see me bunning the hair in an updo sitting atop ala Lauren Conrad on the cover of her Style book and putting on a pair of big shades. A good look for a day at the Sunday fair/markets. Sunday brunch with the girls. Early dinner with your special one.

It always makes me happy when I wear something nice AND new. Does it do the same for you?

Prints Three

How old is this T-shirt print?! I can tell you, it is probably nearly 10 years ago. Back when Op was still pretty big for us and we go for their warehouse sales. I really liked this print because I thought the girl was really pretty and cute! She still is to me. Daddy bought it for me even though it was quite oversized for me. I loved it and wore it alot and finally it was worn out.

Still in summer mood and still in that hawaiian theme dinner mood, I just had to post this! Hopefully one day I get to visit the lovely island of Hawaii and enjoy all that it has to offer! Fingers crossed.

Enough with Rubi flats and sandals! Let's elevate ourselves for the weekend and put on a pair of heels for that nice weekend dinner.

Not exactly the pair I will be putting on tonight, but I will be wearing a blue dress. Anyhow, this pair of robin-egg blue slingbacks was purchased quite a long while back in Bangkok and I really liked the shoebox and brand: Princess!

Now there is a trend here with my shoe collection. I am usually regretting my slingback heels purchases because I can NEVER wear slingbacks properly! Sighs. Pity as some are really pretty. The back part ALWAYS slips off. But I know friends and cousins who don't get that problem. I guess it is just the arch of my feet and perhaps the way I walk. I have tried all sorts of methods and they haven't yet worked.

I bought this pair because I really liked the colour combination, tiffany blue and gold. It does give this sense of royalty with it. I am not a fan of the green soles but no one can see it when I wear! Except they peel off, so it got to the point where they are no longer really wearable. The heels of this particular pair is also not that high, at about 2inches? It is quite comfortable but the quality is all that good. Also, if you wear it too long, the peeptoes friction will cause blisters. Ouch.

Now, I am searching for that colour combination in another pair of shoes. Hopefully I do find it one of these days! Anyway, what are YOUR thoughts on slingbacks? Yay or nay?

M's Food Find #29

It is not a whole NEW food FIND, per se but if you haven't yet tried it and you are a chocoholic or dessert fan, you HAVE TO.

That being said, I havent really yet found a place where I can chill out with friends here. A place where we know straight off, AHHHH good food, sweets, girly talk, let's head there. In Singapore, there are MORE than enough places like that which I love.

This dessert here is from Big O Cafe. There is one in Wheelock Place, which is the one I head to more often about 3/4 years ago. I haven't really headed back there what with all the new food places sprouting up and I am hardly back.

I love all colourful this dessert looks and how happy it makes me everytime I look at the photo.

This cake is called the Aphrodisiac. I was first attracted to it because of the shape it is in. I also think the shape of it looks perfect and the height of that chocolate sends me spiralling. This chocolate cake is TRULY decadent. The dusting on the outside was nice and bitter and the inside so chocolatey and smooth and fudgy and becomes a little gooey in your mouth.

I am so not exaggerating here. You really should give it a go. Besides that, Big O serves a good durian chocolate cake too. For durian lovers, you can give that a go. If you want to have 'real' food before desserts, Big O also serves up main courses, and the works. I like their butter vegetables side! Saves me the calories for the chocolate goodness.

Yes, I demolished the WHOLE thing on my own. It looks good even after the demolition. Oh noooo, now I really am craving for it. Will any kind sould ship one over for me?

Mayy's Closet #8

It's been a pretty accomplished day since I woke up early but my brain feels like it's been quite fried. Looking at clothes and myself (I AM ONLY KIDDING) should help me alleviate that headache before I head out for a nice dinner with some girlfriends tonight.

Here's a very recent outfit I don, only just last Saturday after the black-tie dinner. Yes, a second outfit change. I am vain, so shoot me.

This short little number is from Supre. YES, AGAIN. Wait till I start blogging on that new online loot (when I wear it...). You will really want to start shopping at Supre, if you haven't already had that urge.

I bought it last year on the day (Dec 2010) I was to head back to Singapore. Anna and I went down in the morning and I managed to do some speed shopping. I dare you to speed shop with me! This one set me back AUD10. I don't usually have purple in my wardrobe and thought I should expand on that collection. Now I have a few, thanks to Supre but I find myself not able to rock all shades of purple. My skin tone, I guess.

This dress is made out of a shimmery glitter dark purple stretchy material. The detailing in the top front of the dress may help me look like I have bigger boobs, I think I don't even have to wear a bra which will be a lot more comfortable. The back of the dress is a little sheer so no coloured undies allowed, stick to black or nudies. Girls, ALWAYS check the material and how much it shows, especially under light. The hem of the dress is also tighter so I don't think it is as flattering as it should have been especially for girls with heavy bottoms like me. I really only bought it because I thought the purple was something I didn't have and also it was really easy to throw on and head out.

I have to say the white stilettos weren't mine, I just borrowed it from Li Jia for the photo. The silver clutch was Anna's but we did a bag swap with my bag from Witchery. It is from Portman's. I felt a nice big silver bangle would be nice here. Oh wells, another day perhaps. And I am bringing this home to Singapore. It is one of the more conservative ones I can wear out partying there, I think.

Mayy's Closet #7

Good afternoon people! How's your weekend coming along? It's a sunny Saturday here in WA and the sun shows no signs of slowing down. Up to 34degreecelsius in the coming days, where the heck is Autumn?!

PODS! I look like I am going overboard but hey kids back home, those were FOR YOU. My usual souvenirs which never fail to make people smile. What flavours do YOU like? Mine is Mint, then Snickers. But I can't stop even if you give me a Mars pack.

ALRIGHT, so this is NOT the topic of this post. We can always deviate on weekends. It is OKAY and even more alright if it is Sunday.

On a hot summer day a year ago, that Cotton On drop-shoulder top that I bought for AUD5 or AUD10 was one I wear constantly to keep cool. I like that it is very versatile and doesn't look like I am not making enough effort. However, the material is really one kind of lousy. Furballs after a couple of washes and the material becomes significantly thinner. Cotton On really do need to work on their quality here.

A rare look for me. I love my trilby hats but I hardly have the patience to style with it. So wearing the top long with leggings, I hope the hat made the look instantly 'cool'. WHAT A POSER. And yeah, that's Jesse, my little darling.

One of my favourite photos taken by Anna. We were in Rottnest Island for the first time, for a leadership camp by CBSplus. I still haven't had any good experiences of Rotto maybe because it is so NOT my kind of thing. However, this trip I made some pretty good friends like LiJia and XX. I like how I can slip on the top over my bikini and head to beach. Put on a pair of short surfshorts or long surfshorts for a day out running and jumping. It doesn't make me look too tomboyish and still a little sexy I hope. LOL. without showing too much.

Mayy's Closet #6

The first day of this year being THIS early in uni and not having to stress over parking. I would say thats a good thing. Not the outfit I am wearing today but I just wanted to blog somemore since I refuse to start on my research just yet! I also doubt my supervisors know about this so phew.

This black romper from Supre (yes, again) was from my first trip to the big warehouse here at Osborne Park. It is also my first playsuit. It is all black and in size L. A little too big for me but I just had to have it. It has been over 2 years now and I still love it lots. It has also been with me on my trip to Florence, Italy and I remember wearing it to Chianti region for a wine tour. Photo credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

It was actually summer over in Italy but I still managed to wear leggings and cardigan without sweating much. Wish it was like that here! So I just wear it on its own here, accessorizing with big hoop earrings which I love as it givees the look abit more glamour and rockchic feeling. The puffed up front hair and a nice belt.

I also wore this with Shoestopper #17 to uni once as well. A very casual/semi-corporate look still. If there is even such a thing.

With black as a base, it can take you from day to night, changing the accessories, makeup, shoes and bag. Not a big fan of those floral prints romper. Sure makes one look like you are still in your peejays from the 60s! But for really petite girls, some may still pull it off.

Do you like the comfort of rompers? Or find it a pain especially when you need to go to the restroom ?

Shoestopper #21

Yes! MORE SHOES! I am just a happy girl when there are shoes, shopping and food. Oh and when I clean my house. I am also happy with that.

I know, I am a bit boring lately with the Rubi flats posts but bear with me for just one more now! I do tend to post what is current in MY life. But I promise this pair of Rubi flats will be more exciting with some pizzazz.

BLING BLING! A shiny pair of light gold sequinned flats.

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com
A close-up shot of the sequins which then show you it isn't neccessarily that BLING for the day. It is NO surprise that I will fall in love with this pair of shoes. The gold, the sequins, the luxe interior lining of black satin.

When I first set eyes on it, I knew I will get it. But I had slight reservations as to how often I will wear it and how I can pull the look off. I bought at full price, AUD29.95 I think. And kept thinking it is a night pair of shoes. Turned out after I wore it one time, I didn't want to wear any other pairs at that time. I started wearing it out daytime, nighttime, pairing it with dresses, shorts, everything I could get away with. It always brought me some form of glamour everyday. Till I realised I was wearing it out faster than anything. So I stopped and reduced it to occasional. Sadly, I still wore it to death and I had no choice but to retire it on last Sunday when I noticed I was walking around with the soles hanging by that much. Oops. Guess it's money worth eh?

Do you have a sequinned pair in your collection? Perhaps not sequins, but a pair you wear to death and wish it could be revived and kept forever?

Today, I had to throw away another pair of Rubi flats because the soles were peeling off and it got a whole heap of sand/dirt in it after being blown onto the sand/dirt two nights ago. Oh wells... so here's a post to remember the shoe by.

There she is, a shiny bronze colour with a darker exotic skin print on the inner rim. It really does go with anything. So that's good for whenever I don't want to rack my brains or in a rush and havaianas just can't go. That is one recurring theme when I pick my everyday shoes. However, I do wish it was not such a darker dull bronze. I felt it was not as feminine as I would like. For AUD5, I cannot be complaining anyway.

This is also not my first such pair of flats.

Ta-dah! That is my first pair with the similar design, just a different colour scheme. No prizes there for noticing the black-gold colour combination. HEH. This one was taken after I have worn it out quite a bit. It was really very comfortable and the shape held pretty well with the material the black part was made out of. Unfortunately, this one had to be retired after a year or so. Yes, this one lasted quite a while! Surprise surprise! I also think I paid full price for this pair at AUD19.95 or AUD29.95.

Are you a fan of the affordable Rubi flats? If you are, how many pairs have you got? Share with me your Rubi collection!
