Mayy's Closet - CNY Night 2

I didn't sleep well the night before so I looked pretty tired by the end of second day. Also got a wee bit lazy with the dolling up!

Wore my neon yellow and floral neckline dress from Forever New. Hardly wear this style of dresses so it was a nice surprise... until you see the cut out back.

Dad was all, what's with the sixties look this morning and now?!

Thanks to my updo this morning, I had wavy hair for the evening so I just pinned it up both sides to let it down and enjoy the waves.

Used my Forever New fan clutch and Zara grey cutout suede heels to finish the look. For the past couple of years, I have spent the year before building my CNY collection. I put away new dresses from my closet that are festive enough, and when I see something CNY-ish I buy them no matter when.

Like for example, I have already started on my next CNY (2015) outfits. Then a couple of weeks before, I make notes of the whole accessorizing each outfit thing. So each morning or night I don't have to spend too much time thinking, I just look at my notebook and go according to the lists!

Mayy's Closet - CNY Day 2

Day 2 of CNY is usually my favourite day because i get to eat my eldest aunt's cooking! She does the best CNY meal, whether it was her steamboat or just her noodles and curry.

With CNY, it feels like my sole duty is to get dolled up! I hardly do put in much effort so once in awhile like this is fine. Did my hair into a side updo for this day so I can eat in peace.

Borrowing Mum's Lady Dior bag for my photo.

Structured dress from Lucy years ago but I have kept it till now to wear it. It gave me a lot of room to stuff my face with food later.

Just to prove how tall my cousin is or how short I am... until I wear my heels. Pretty much she was the only one left who was taller than me.

Loving this look!

Mayy's Closet - CNY Night 1

I know I know, my cousins give me a hard time about changing clothes between my day and night visits. Well, it is hot and humid in Singapore, people! I need to shower and feel totally clean (NON-STICKY).
But hey, any excuse for a new outfit okay?

Feels eons since I wore Black Milk leggings but it still feels amazing. Can't wait for winter! One thing about CNY is that Dad drives us to our visits so I get to wear whatever and heels and be all cool about it. No public transport and alot of walking!

Year of the Horse this year, but I wore my Year of the Snake leggings because I am born in the year of the Snake and I love Snakes and that's about all the justification I need. Also I got into Blackmilk mid last year which totally meant CNY for Snake year was over...

Paired it with asymmetrical hem top from Saboskirt with cutout back. Dad had a good joke about this one, at least he laughed about it and not send me back up to change.

My gold necklace from Bangkok and red plexiglass wedges from Maison Martin Margiela x H&M collection completed the look.

Sis got me the gold bangles from Greece but I feel like it is giving a bit of a rash...

A lot of red I know, but I am superstitious and this is the only festival where I can get away from so much gold and red tones!

Mayy's Closet - CNY Day 1

I was having doubts about what to wear for my first day even though I had planned it pretty much a year ago. Eventually I stuck to my original plan!

Wore the Kookai red asymmterical hem bodycon dress with cutout back.

Paired it with ombre bronze necklace, jade bracelet and Kookai gold ring. Lucy in the sky gold 6 inch stilettos with my Chanel classic flapbag completed the look.

Had to do my hair up since we are not allowed to wash our hair for the first day and I don't want it to be all hot and sticky and gross...

Getting Cookie to face the camera was such a chore...

Cookie and her favourite festival

Like me, I think CNY is Cookie's favourite holiday/festival!

The only time we get to doll her up and she doesn't try and run away or roll herself out of the clothes.

Thanks to Clara who got the cheongsam in Taipei! Cookie has new clothes. She had another cheongsam that we have put her in for a few years now...

Poor darling being subject to alot of photographers when we put her in the dragon outfit...

More like it is a tissue paper box cover that seemed to fit her!

She got realllllyyyyyy tired.

Cute eh?

Mayy's Closet - CNY Reunion Dinner

This year was the first year I couldn't spend too much time in the days leading up to CNY to help with spring cleaning etc. Kind of miss it. I only got home a day before CNY eve and was feeling a little bit under the weather so I got abit lazy getting ready for CNY reunion dinner.

Wore the Lace bib maxidress from Xenia Boutique. Making it a habit to not wear anything new for reunion dinner since it is not CNY yet.

Yes, my parents were shocked that I wore flats for dinner. I was just so tired.

Paired it with Charles and Keith nude pearl sandals (mum's), a beige vintage Chanel handbag (mum's) and just enjoying the side split of the maxi and how amazing it is that the length is just right!

I wasn't feeling in the CNY mood at all leading up to this evening but seeing all that decor really helped!

Mayy's Closet - Wet Look Sailor Stripe Leggings

One of the museum pieces I had wanted when I first started out in Blackmilk. sis managed to track it down for me and yet another comfortable staple piece to own!

I looked horrid in the Beetlejuice legs but the wider stripes here seemed to work better.
The white parts are abit sheer so one has to be careful for the underwear eh!

Paired it with a camogreen Supre knit top and Kmart studded boots for a winter day out!

You can see the shine of the wetlook here under the lights.

mayyn meal - The Tuck Shop in Paya Lebar, Singapore

wanted to find somewhere nice and quiet to chill with my bff Jol before running her errand in Ubi, so I tracked down a cafe in Paya Lebar industrial area at 178 Paya Lebar. It definitely looked like an office building with no notice anywhere about the cafe. We thought we were lost, until we took the lift up to level 7.

even then, we were feeling unsure until we walked right to the end bits and saw the non-descript cafe.

it was so quiet! but such a big space to showcase their furniture.

I guess since there's a church nearby, that helps their weekend crowds?

Jol ordered the tuna Caesar Salad which was mediocre?

I ordered the German Pork Schnitzel which was pretty terrible.

I don't understand how they need 2 chefs and the 2 waitstaff they have basically stood behind the counter chatting and giggling. No service whatsoever and in Singapore, their prices arent necessarily the cheapest thing around either.

What a total fail. However on instagram, a friend who's been there tells me their Truffle Mash (not on the menu) is good. But then, its hard to go wrong when there's truffle oil involved right? Event heir local dishes like chicken rice costs 10bucks! Like erm, office people could walk to other canteens around and get it for like 3bucks?

Thank goodness they sell overpriced furniture right?

mayyn meal - The Sushi Bar in Far East, Singapore

One of the hottest new places in town, this place is. I wanted to go on the Tuesday after CNY weekend but it was not open for lunch. Thankfully I managed to make a reservation for my Friday dinner. So on Friday, I got there and true to all that I've heard, there was a queue.

Once we found someone who could confirm our reservation, we were repeatedly warn about the strict rules of a 10minute wait and nobody can join us if we are already past that. So, a 4people reservation turned into 3 at our table.

It was a very busy and small place so turnover needs to be fast. So when we ordered, we were asked if that was all, and when we mentioned we may order something else later, the waitress had an attitude about it and snottily told us that the wait later will be quite long given the crowd.

I guess it reminded me abit of some small Tokyo shops?

Ordered the scallops mentaiyaki for starters. The scallops were very thinly sliced but still somewhat delicious.

It was the Chirashi don that really got me wanting to come here. So we ordered 2 to share.

I must admit, this is value for money, the slices of sashimi are definitely very fresh and sweet and thick generous portions.

It really is salivatingly good. Tastes as good as it looks. However, in Japanese cuisine, the rice is very important which unfortunately, this place did not get it right at all. It was not very sticky nor glossy. It was abit wet and soggy. Not good quality at all.

We also ordered the Aburi Salmon roll.

It was quite good I suppose, the generous ingredients are a plus. But like I said the sushi rice really didnt hold nor tie everything in properly.

On the whole, I understand its popularity due to its fresh generous sashimi and rather alright prices. However, I don't think I will return for it because of the really bad stuck-up service (kind of make sense they dont have service charge because well, they dont deserve it anyway) and the sushi rice is really a downer.
