mayyn meal - Ginza Kuroson

It was quite the food trip that month back home. My meet up with a girlfriend took me to Robertson Quay for dinner. It took us a while to decide as we walked the length of it. Also, because a lot of the places were full house.

Finally decided on Japanese, and one in between two delicious smelling italian restaurants.

Ginza Kuroson.

Private rooms.

The amazing fresh fish and grilling counter

We split the chef choice's sashimi plate. It was fresh and quite yummy.

And the oyster cream risotto was so rich and abit too mushy for me. sounds and looks good. taste-wise, wasn't too awesome for me.

This simple meal costs us around 70 bucks for two pax. splurge much? but yeah, we deserve it.

Ended the night at the wine connection...

she liked this botryllis semillon from Aussie which had abit of honey infused in it. abit too sweet for me. im not much of a girly drinks kinda girl. ;)

M's Food Find #76

Having blogged about my outfit, I have to also blog about the food that I graced my presence with. I am kidding!

So it was Ku De Ta at Marina Bay Sands Singapore, right on top at level 57. Reservations definitely required. And if you wish to spend the night at the lounge, go ahead because the cover charge is waived for diners.

Oh and the view is pretty spectacular so it would be awesome if you requested to sit outside for dinner. That is, if it isnt pouring which Singapore is prone to do these days.

We ordered the Yutaka Roll, which had foie gras, scallop and truffle. Sounded so amazing. But the sushi rice was abit too mushy for me. Really not THAT fab. The sweet sauce really makes a difference to the sushi. The roll tastes different with and without the sauce. So make sure you try it both ways to see how you like it.

The place serves up a kind of Japanese fusion food and it really is interesting how they pull all the different inspired ingredients together. But as to how the tastes come up to...well...

Pan seared yellowfin tuna - one has to be a major fan of tuna to take this dish because the fishy taste is quite strong. Otherwise it is done very beautifully.

And the creamy sauce/mash at the side is yummy and the kaffir lime really kicks it up. My girlfriend loved the sauce so much she asked for more, which they happily obliged.

We ended the light dinner with the apply and honey tart. which sounds great in theory and looks great, but I didnt quite like it. It was much too icy for me. It is refreshing, yes. But would probably have gone for like a cake or chocolate kinda thing to round it up.

Nevertheless, it is worth the visit. The price was not ridiculously expensive for such a fine dining kinda place with such a top class view. Whether or not it is for a lifestyle less ordinary, thats up for debate. They didnt quite blow me away my first time.

The club itself is pretty small but great for tourists to come together and have a dance, drink terribly overpriced alcohol and gawk at the view. Am I going back? Probably not. But I am a local...

M's Food Find #69

Good evening everyone. The weekend falls upon us once more. I hope everyone's had a good week. Otherwise. make up for it during the weekend! It looks to be sunny and nice for us here. Unfortunately, I dont have much plans for now. I am getting used to it. But I suppose the stars have been trying to teach me something for awhile now. I am probably just grasping it.

ANYWAY, enough rambling. Let's talk food. I have been craving for Japanese ramen for so long now but haven't really got round to satisfying it. So let's blog about it!

This crowded little place is tucked away on a nondescript street in the city of Perth. Slightly away from the shopping strip. Called NAO, lunchtime crowd during the weekdays can really get wayy busy and the wait can take a while. But let's see if it is worth it.

I went there with a friend during summer...so I managed to have the special ramen!

The dipping noodles were very good. So springy and flavourful. The toppings were just the right amount to the noodles. I really cannot say much about it except I would gladly queue for it. And thats saying alot. Its worth the wait. definitely one of the best ramen I have had and also in Perth.

Had to end the lunch with dessert - azuki beans stuffed fishcakes. The outerskin was thin and crispy and the azuki beans filling was generous and a hint of sweetness. Oh it sure brought me back to Tokyo...

The last photo is just one of their signature soup ramen dishes. Well, my lunch companion preferred Kai (another Japanese Ramen place which I had previously blogged about), but I think the noodles at Nao were more authentic. The chashu though thinly sliced had that smokey flavour which is so addictive, and so soft...

Sadly, the ramen egg was not featured. It would have made it to an 8 or 8.5/10 for me...but for now its 7.5/10 rating is good enough for me. Have you been? What do you think? Nao Japanese on Urbanspoon

M's Food Find #75 (ni)

Heyheyhey! Time for some good food (comparing to othe restaurants in Perth).

I managed to squeeze in lunch with a friend at Nobu during my busy break before returning home. I find the lunch menu pretty affordable and good for value.

We both ordered the bento box with black miso cod.

This was very refreshing on the palate.

The sushi were nicely formed.

The black cod miso was way smaller than the ala carte one which is understandable but the freshness and taste didnt live up to expectations unfortunately. The tempura prawn salad was yummy but I felt the sauce was too overpowering. Service during lunch is also quick and fussfree and I like the brighter settings.

I went back for a second dinner in the later weeks which turned out to be very disappointing and unlike my first time. Rice served was not japanese rice which is quite sad for a Japanese restaurant of this calibre. And perhaps because Tiger Woods and other golfers had a private function the night before, the quality of food I received was varied and not at all satisfying. Even my 'heavenly' Otoro sashimi slices.

I love Nobu but perhaps, they need to always keep check on their standards. Shouldnt be slipping so quickly eh?

M's Food Find #78

One of those nights where submission date was near and good food breaks are crucial to the mental well-being. Have been wanting to head down there for awhile now since Alina told me about it... And finally did so with Sam, Mick, Shiyu and Nurun. No reservations taken and will only be served when everyone is there. Dont go on a hungry tummy...and make sure everyone is ON TIME!!!

real crowded and lots of people come in and go with take-aways.

Not a very big place but still sits comfortably with pretty waitresses ;)

Located on Kearns Crescent, just round from a chinese restaurant in Applecross and lots of other food places line this street!

When we finally get round to ordering and our food arriving...

Shiyu's mixed sushi bento.

Part of the bentobox (karaage chicken)

Rice is not included and ordered separately to the bento box.

The top tier of the bento box...

Separate order of agedashi tofu.

A plate of toro salmon sashimi. I was so excited when I saw this on the menu!!! Alas, its a hoax to me. Slices were too thin, and I cant taste any difference... At AUD12 for this plate, I guess I cant expect too much. For sure, wouldnt be ordering it again.

My chilli karaage don was nothing special too...

Nurun's tempura prawn curry. Ordinary...

How the bento box was presented...

We also ordered the assorted sashimi with tuna, prawns, salmon, scallops.

Pretty fresh and sweet. I am not blown away but I concede that it is pretty good for Perth.

The main courses didnt blow us away and we were too hungry to nag at any tiny details. It is pretty standard fare and at slightly above average prices. Nevertheless, no meal is complete without desserts.

One of us ordered the matcha green tea ice cream which comes with a pathetic amount of azuki beans.
The goma/black sesame ice cream which is pretty fragrant and I quite like it!

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

The STAR of Ohnamiya lies in this green tea panna cotta which I will choose to return for. It packs a solid good green tea punch and the cream is baked to a smooth consistency. The creme also compliments the panna cotta well. It is not too sweet and perfect for all green tea lovers. I was the only one who ordered it (in fact I ordered two desserts). Everyone preferred this and wished they had gotten it.

Well, not a total loss my trip there but without this amazing dessert, I wouldnt be making a return trip anytime soon...

M's Food Find #71 (update)

Heyhey! Now I've blogged about this restaurant before, called Kai in Parry Avenue. But had to do a quick update because I keep going back since the first visit and on the second visit discovered this... AND never ever order anything else since.

It's called the Sushi for Salmon Lovers. I can see why! It costs $16.50 and always takes ages to arrive to the table... Seriously. Especially when Sam orders his ramen and he finishes it before my sushi gets to me. RAH. This photo is taken from my first order of this plate. And seriously, the subsequent orders never looked this good.

The little sushi rolls have fresh salmon, cucumber and avocado in them. The rice used is pretty soft and not the best but I will let it slide. Because of the fresh salmon sushi and the seared salmon sushi. I LOVE THE SEARED SALMON! I am not a big fan of the salmon caviar sushi so I swapped it for the seared so I get two instead of one ;)

Photos credits: mayydiaries.blogspot.com

The reason why I fell in love with this plate (other than the seared salmon) is the first time I ordered it, the fresh salmon sushi came to me like this, familiar looking! I knew it was fresh and not just fresh, it was going to taste pretty amazing. And I was right. Unfortunately, the standards have since dropped in particular to this because I never saw the skin or this colour or cut again when it comes to me. Quite disappointing.

But well, worth giving it a go still in my opinion!
