M's Food Find #76

Having blogged about my outfit, I have to also blog about the food that I graced my presence with. I am kidding!

So it was Ku De Ta at Marina Bay Sands Singapore, right on top at level 57. Reservations definitely required. And if you wish to spend the night at the lounge, go ahead because the cover charge is waived for diners.

Oh and the view is pretty spectacular so it would be awesome if you requested to sit outside for dinner. That is, if it isnt pouring which Singapore is prone to do these days.

We ordered the Yutaka Roll, which had foie gras, scallop and truffle. Sounded so amazing. But the sushi rice was abit too mushy for me. Really not THAT fab. The sweet sauce really makes a difference to the sushi. The roll tastes different with and without the sauce. So make sure you try it both ways to see how you like it.

The place serves up a kind of Japanese fusion food and it really is interesting how they pull all the different inspired ingredients together. But as to how the tastes come up to...well...

Pan seared yellowfin tuna - one has to be a major fan of tuna to take this dish because the fishy taste is quite strong. Otherwise it is done very beautifully.

And the creamy sauce/mash at the side is yummy and the kaffir lime really kicks it up. My girlfriend loved the sauce so much she asked for more, which they happily obliged.

We ended the light dinner with the apply and honey tart. which sounds great in theory and looks great, but I didnt quite like it. It was much too icy for me. It is refreshing, yes. But would probably have gone for like a cake or chocolate kinda thing to round it up.

Nevertheless, it is worth the visit. The price was not ridiculously expensive for such a fine dining kinda place with such a top class view. Whether or not it is for a lifestyle less ordinary, thats up for debate. They didnt quite blow me away my first time.

The club itself is pretty small but great for tourists to come together and have a dance, drink terribly overpriced alcohol and gawk at the view. Am I going back? Probably not. But I am a local...

M's Food Find #75 (ni)

Heyheyhey! Time for some good food (comparing to othe restaurants in Perth).

I managed to squeeze in lunch with a friend at Nobu during my busy break before returning home. I find the lunch menu pretty affordable and good for value.

We both ordered the bento box with black miso cod.

This was very refreshing on the palate.

The sushi were nicely formed.

The black cod miso was way smaller than the ala carte one which is understandable but the freshness and taste didnt live up to expectations unfortunately. The tempura prawn salad was yummy but I felt the sauce was too overpowering. Service during lunch is also quick and fussfree and I like the brighter settings.

I went back for a second dinner in the later weeks which turned out to be very disappointing and unlike my first time. Rice served was not japanese rice which is quite sad for a Japanese restaurant of this calibre. And perhaps because Tiger Woods and other golfers had a private function the night before, the quality of food I received was varied and not at all satisfying. Even my 'heavenly' Otoro sashimi slices.

I love Nobu but perhaps, they need to always keep check on their standards. Shouldnt be slipping so quickly eh?

M's Food Find #71 (update)

Heyhey! Now I've blogged about this restaurant before, called Kai in Parry Avenue. But had to do a quick update because I keep going back since the first visit and on the second visit discovered this... AND never ever order anything else since.

It's called the Sushi for Salmon Lovers. I can see why! It costs $16.50 and always takes ages to arrive to the table... Seriously. Especially when Sam orders his ramen and he finishes it before my sushi gets to me. RAH. This photo is taken from my first order of this plate. And seriously, the subsequent orders never looked this good.

The little sushi rolls have fresh salmon, cucumber and avocado in them. The rice used is pretty soft and not the best but I will let it slide. Because of the fresh salmon sushi and the seared salmon sushi. I LOVE THE SEARED SALMON! I am not a big fan of the salmon caviar sushi so I swapped it for the seared so I get two instead of one ;)

The reason why I fell in love with this plate (other than the seared salmon) is the first time I ordered it, the fresh salmon sushi came to me like this, familiar looking! I knew it was fresh and not just fresh, it was going to taste pretty amazing. And I was right. Unfortunately, the standards have since dropped in particular to this because I never saw the skin or this colour or cut again when it comes to me. Quite disappointing.

But well, worth giving it a go still in my opinion!

M's Food Find #68

The same restaurant featured in Food Find #55, this is part deux because (A)LURE had two parts to their dinner seatings. Before 8pm, they had their 3 course sunset menu available where ala-carte was only available from 8pm onwards.

This time, I got to attend the sunset seating with my family on the first night as it was the closest thing we could have and make our Harry Potter movie in time.

Having these choices, it was not difficult to know what I want and turned out that my combination was not bad choices at all. Here we go!

I got the Chicken Caesar Salad as my entree. I love the cut-up lettuce leaves and generous caesar dressing. Chicken pieces were quite big and tender as well. While it is alittle on the salty side, I totally would not mind having it again and again. There is just something addictive here.

Sis and Mum got the oysters kilpatrick with bacon. Quite like char siew, and the combination was really good. Reminded me of the first oyster I ever had and liked when I was like 5. This entree would be the best value here.

Dad had the fresh ones, similar good value here.

The setting for Mum's Japanese tasting plate for main. Love the chopsticks!

Anyway, my main course was the barramundi which was cooked very very well. Near perfection, melt in your mouth goodness. The fish was fresh and really went well with the mashed potatoes. The cherry truss tomato was fresh and I love the pop in my mouth. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS, even over the beef.

Both Dad and sis got the beef. Nothing to crow about and very chewy. Sis took a million years to eat hers and she wasn't a fan of it.

Mum's Japanese tasting plate for main. She was not impressed and neither was I. I think it is the cheapest one here, so not great for value and if you want Japanese food, go to a Japanese restaurant instead. Dad ordered this for her so she had no choice. She really wanted the barramundi...

Now, time for desserts. Remember my love affair with (A)lure's bakewell tart. So no prizes for guessing my instant dessert choice the minute I saw it was an option here...

With my favourite vanilla bean ice cream, nothing beats this! I SUPER LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! The tart is really warm and the cake texture is just wonderful. Perfect. Toasted almonds really add a different taste level here, bringing out the buttery flavours.

Sis had the Toblerone ice cream dessert encased in chocolate.

It came with a melted caramel centre, really quite special and yummy too. A rather good choice.

All in all, it is very well priced for a wonderful three course meal and amazing service as usual. In Burswood, (A)lure is so far the only restaurant I would recommend going over and over.
